Bidrage med feedbackMy husband and my kids were coming back from Vacaville and the kids were hungry, so les stop at Mel's for dinner. My husband said. We drove by and it was so dark. The window curtains were all down. It was like 9:30ish. Maybe they are close, but there was some cars outside, so we called several times and no answer, it went to voicemail. So we decided to go to ihop instead. Not the best choice, but seems like Mel's didn't want our business. Too bad because we love Mel's food.
Big fan of this restaurant chain, and this location has super nice staff, a laid-back atmosphere, and great milkshakes, of course! I always get breakfast foods when I'm here no matter the time of day. Take advantage of the Steak Eggs deal painted on the window :
I'm a fan of the Mel's on Howe, but I recently visited the J St. location for the first time. Pros: they have generous, delicious, and reasonable daily specials. Service was very prompt and the food came out quickly. I got the eggs florentine which was delicious and a massive portion that kept me full most of the day. One thing I noticed was that I didn't hear any music for a while until I think someone at a booth used their jukebox--this created a bit of a cold ambiance in comparison with the Howe location. We also were not offered refills on any of our drinks until the bill came. If I am in the area again and need breakfast I will probably return just because it is a great value.
Thank goodness there's a late night spot that isn't a dennys. This location was a cute one. I first like that they have security, because midtown can be sketch sometimes. Secondly the staff was friendly. Third, my toddler liked playing with the jukebox. And fourth, the cornbread was so good.
Server was rude, we were way overcharged for a menu modification (basic skillet dish with potatoes and veggies $18.50 per plate) and just generally a poor experience.
