Bidrage med feedbackWe attended Spielberhaus with a group arranged by Skiskhule Saalbach. Walk to the outskirts of the town to meet the restaurant’s piste bashes which whisks you up the mountain. This is an experience in itself. Travelling in the open top piste bashes in swirling snowfall is not for whomps but we loved it. Arrived at the hotel cloaked in a winter wonderland to be welcomed into the warm and inviting building. Ribs, potato wedges and salad washed down with beer or wine was top notch and very filling. Desert was not required but we did manage squeeze in a schnapps or two. Staff did well to serve a large group efficiently. Well done. After our dinner we took the toboggans back down to the town. Blumin great fun. It’s not without it’s safety issues (recommend helmet and don’t drink too much) but was brilliant at reducing sensible adults to giggling children. A great night out enjoy.
We visited Spielberghaus with a Swedish tour. The food: spareribs and roasted potatoes with two different sauces tasted good. However, it would have been nice with som vegetables e.g. a sallad with tomatoes with the food. We had the classical Apfelstrudeln as dessert. There were many groups with noicy and drunk people. We game early and left efter about 1,5 hour.
Booked expecting idyllic floodlight sledge ride home after group meal. What you really get: 1. Pay for winding ride up in snow machine. Ok. 2. Arrive at a beautiful setting for food. Very nice and authentic inside and outside. Nice. 3. Food not available that we wanted and apparently we should have booked 24 hours ahead. What for a Cheese fondue? Where does it ask that? 4. Sat next to a group of 20 who were not eating and who spent the entire time smashing the tables and painting one another’s faces. Hilarious. Except this is a restaurant and not the circus. 5. Told that if we wanted a dessert or coffee we had to move as they needed the table for the next sitting. What? No mention of this at any point and the table of 20 who presumably were spending thousands on shots were left to continue to wreck the evening of everyone else in the room. 6. We left. No tip. Loved the reaction to that and summed up the attitude of the people. It is all about your money. 7. Left in a Tobogan. But not on a winding floodlight stretch down the mountain. It is back down the winding road track that at points is black-out and has no sides leading in to prevent you sliding in to a river. If you have anyone who is faint-hearted. Be aware. If you want a memorable ride, go to the others. Bad bad experience and the only bad one in our entire stay at wonderful Saalbach.
We had a Christmas dinner at Spielberghaus and really enjoyed the experience. Having a meal there is really an experience as it includes firstly a ride up to the restaurant on a snow groomer and you return back to the village on a sledge along a 3km long path. The food was very good and service friendly. The food is served very quickly (almost too quickly, but that’s something we’ve experienced in almost every restaurant around here). The venison burger is definitely worth trying as well as the spinach knödels.
Having walked for around 4 hours we dropped into the Spielberg House for a late lunch. Super staff and lovely meal that provided the energy to walk back down along the river into Saalbach.
