The Yasai: Vegan Japanese Experience At Little Italy

I typed vegan sushi in San Diego and this came up. I’m so glad it did cause this was honestly the best sushi I’ve ever had. I wish I didn’t live so far from here cause I would be here all the time.

If I could give more stars, I would!The food was phenomenal starting from the Vegan Baos to the Cripsy Forbidden Rice. I was so sad to be done with my meal.The staff were great, took us in even though we walked in on a Saturday evening and gave us great Sake recommendations. Overall, I'm more than pleased with my experience and would definitely return!

The food here is really yummy!! we got bao buns, scallops, caterpillar roll, stressed out roll, and nigiri and they were all very interesting and tasty.we did have to drive thru bad airport traffic to get here and then pay $15 for parking but i won’t fault the restaurant too hard for that. i really liked the ambience of the music and the decorations (overall very good vibes) but there was the minus of loud airplanes overhead every few minutes and a lot of flies from outside (but i do prefer flies and fresh air to the alternative stale air and no flies i guess)but overall i love vegan izakaya and it’s becoming one of my favorite meals

Everything looked visually great, but food was a bit average, not bad but not mind blowing either. We ordered the polenta scallops, tonkatsu ramen, tomato ramen, and the Little Italy roll. The polenta scallops and tonkatsu ramen were probably the best. Tomato ramen was good but a bit too oily. The Little Italy roll was the most disappointing, it felt kind of dry and lacking flavor. I kind of expected the vegan rolls to be like Shizen (vegan izakaya in SF) or Tane Vegan Izakaya in Hawaii, those ones were mindblowingly good.Service was friendly but a tad slow. Overall, it was fine but I probably wouldn’t come back here.

The food's great, but the service not so much unfortunately.We were seated for our reservation and didn't receive any service (not even water or drinks) for 20 minutes, while 2 reservations after us had their orders taken and everything. We just left and went elsewhere. I think they forgot that they seated us a while ago.I do love the convoy location though, we usually get awesome service there!
