Carruth Cellars Wine Garden

Went here with my wife and we hustled over because we knew they closed at 9 pm. When we arrived at 8:09 pm we were told last call at 8 pm and were told no service. I don't like to leave a review based on service. However, I was annoyed that since this is a wine and cheese garden they would turn away patrons on their first week open. This was disappointing because we live in the area and had been looking forward to this place opening.

I will preface this by saying every person I bring up Carruth Cellars immediately says that it is the best most unknown place in San Diego which makes the spot even better because it isn't Instagram famous (yet). This is the most perfect date spot. It feels like you are in a fairytale. There was tiny bar area and then a gorgeous back patio. The flowers that surrounded and were sitting on bar tables filled the space with such a beautiful smell. It was intimate and romantic and I loved every second of it. The Merlot they have I think about it every day. I believe it was the 2012 KNIGHT'S VALLEY MERLOT but I will edit this if otherwise. So good. They have a great deal where you can get a flight for $20 which I think is a steal. Allows you to try all their wines and pick a favorite for another glass (or bottle). We didn't get any of their food so I can't speak on that. Really sad to hear they are moving this location to Liberty Station. This spot's location was stellar. Hopefully the new spot is just as wonderful.

Our friends recently introduced us to Carruth Cellars. It happened to be the last day at the Little Italy location before they relocated to Liberty Station. We tried BDX and the Unicorn blend. I really like BDX. Took a bottle of Unicorn home for mom. Atmosphere was great. The staff was so nice and knowledgeable. Food was delicious. We had two different sandwiches and a charcuterie board. You can add more of your favorites to the board on the side if you want extra of a certain item. I loved the garden feel at this location. Hope they do something similar at Liberty Station.

Awesome place and cute garden! Friendly staff too. Yummy wine and cheese pairings. Highly recommend if you're in the downtown gaslamp area!
