Bidrage med feedbackAfter 2 years in the Algarve, without proper British Fish 'n Chips, a magazine advert for it caught my eye, but it would it be worth doing an 80km round trip from our home in Monchique to the far side of Sao Bartolomeu de Messines to try it? To keep it traditional, we decided to go for lunch on a Friday and Roosters was easy to find on the N270 road towards Paderne and the first good point was plenty of parking! It was a nice day for dining outside and as we had not booked, we were lucky enough to find a table. It was quite busy so next time, to be on the safe side, we will book in advance. A nice friendly waitress brought us the menu 's although we already knew what we wanted, but it was interesting to see what else was available and what the prices were like! It was all very reasonable, but we skipped a starter so as not to spoil our appetites and just settled for a mug of tea while we waited. I couldn 't help craning my neck trying to see what other diners were having. The tea was good, but the only plate I could see clearly appeared to have pieces of fisk on it rather than the big fillet I was hoping for, but hold on, it wasn 't pieces of fish on that plate, it was scampi so maybe I was too quick to judge. I didn 't have too long to think about it before the waitress appeared with a bottle of vinegar and then three plates of fish, chips, two with mushy peas and as you get a choice, one with garden peas. And the fish a lovely big fillet with a nice flaky white texture just what we have been missing for so long, perfect fish and chips. Thank you, Roosters. We will be back soon!
The Olive Branch Inn is a very nice bar, restaurant to visit. On a Sunday they do a delicious roast dinner with hugh yorkshire pudding and a choice of meats, plus veg. During the week they have different themes and on a Thursday they have a quiz night which is fantastic and there are may people who take the quiz seriously. Money raised on this evening goes towards supporting the Bomberios. It is a fun place with good food and very nice staff.
I have dined at the Olive Branch on many occasions for breakfast, lunch and dinner, when on holiday in Portugal, and the food and service has always been excellent. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Sara and Rui are great hosts and go out of their way to accommodate your requirements. Well done and thank you.
