Sammy Lou's Home Cooking Bbq - Rowlett

I finally made it to Sammy Lou's! The ribs and brisket were absolutely delicious, and the chicken-fried steak was pretty good as well. We decided to get a pound of brisket to take home, and it was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. A week later, I returned and tried the meatloaf and the three-meat trio, which included ribs and both types of sausage. The meatloaf was tasty, though one end was a bit warm and it got hotter towards the other side. If I try it again, I’ll have it with the red gravy to see if there’s a noticeable difference. Both sausages were very flavorful, and the ribs were fantastic once again. We skipped dessert this time but brought home another pound of brisket.

The restaurant has a great atmosphere and attentive wait staff. I tried the Monday Meatloaf special, which came with baked beans and macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was above average, and the portion of meatloaf was generous, but I found the flavor a bit unbalanced for my taste. The baked beans tasted like pinto beans, which wasn't what I expected. I really wanted to enjoy this meal more than I did. While other patrons seem to love it, I personally did not have a great experience and don’t think I will return, as the flavors just didn't resonate with me.

This restaurant was recommended by the fishmonger at Central Market, and it did not disappoint. The catfish and the sides we tried were exceptional. The ambiance is fantastic, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back!

We got to meet the manager the last time we came. They were a lot of fun and insisted on getting dessert for us for my mother-in-law's birthday. The food was amazing and we had a really good time.
