Beautiful vintage restaurant with delicious food. simple, delicious French cuisine with excellent service. our 6 years old was thrilled by the "affennüssen she spent deshelling and eating before her dinner arrived (and not filling on brot! . the eier kocotte, sirloin steak. and desert were excellent. will surely come back!
The moron who left the “starter” review is clueless and needs to stick to his level of sophistication, which is McDonalds. The food here is expertly cooked to perfection. For starter, we shared the rillette maquereau (mackerel in English) which was out of this world...delicious and delicate and totally unlike anything we ever had before. Furthermore, the quantity was ample enough to fill both my wife and myself. For main course, each of us ordered the filet de boeuf, which was an excellent (and very large) piece of Normandy beef which was cooked to perfection. My wife paired hers with carrots and salad and I paired mine with carrots and frites (French fries in English). I barely was able to finish my wonderful meal and my wife came close to finishing hers before she got full. Our only regret is that we did not have enough room for dessert and coffee. Next time! The menu, although small, is filled with wonderful dishes, and the wine list, although also small has excellent choices picked by the owner. We highly recommend this wonderful small but totally gourmet restaurant. The chef (who also is the owner) is individually attentive to each of his customers and the maitre de/waitress provided perfectly attentive service and was very warm and friendly.
We booked here on the strength of the reviews. The restaurant is very brightly lit so the eating ambience is harsh. Seemed somewhat amateur. The menu is a little eclectic (see snails, saddle of rabbit) which is fine but the execution was basic. Nothing wrong...with simple if it is done well. However, the sea snails were very gritty and served simply seasoned with vinegar and a mayo/mustard sauce. Both the meat dishes we ordered (the rabbit and a bavette steak) were overcooked and tough. If you're going to do simple. Do it well. The restaurant that evening was understaffed. One person in the kitchen making all the food and one person doing table service and serving the drinks. The service and welcome was excellent and highly professional. The chef did his best on his own but was massively overstretched and the food suffered.
I have eaten twice and this place is very good with nice, friendly staff. It is small so you either have to get there right at noon or reserve a table. If you don't you may get turned away which happened both times I was...there. They are only open for lunch but I think they serve dinner on Friday and Saturday. The menu is small and it is written on a chalkboard. They have a plat du jour (daily special plate) and they have maybe 8 or so other meals to chose from. The good thing about that is you know that their food is fresh. It is typical little French bistro that serves good, fresh French food. The restaurant is very tight and cozy and it can get a bit loud at lunch time. The first time I went with a friend and she had a bit of a problem with this. Because our meal was so good I took my husband the following week and had another good meal.
