L'Etoiles d'Or - Rouen

We ordered chicken kebabs and two couscous meals, and the three of us could barely finish everything. It was all delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful, even though they didn't speak much English. There is a 3" step to get in.

Walked from Cathedral to restaurant La Petite Bouffe (recommended by Rick Steves) but decided instead to check out this Mediterranean restaurant on corner with nice outdoor seating area in plaza. Two of us had couscous with chicken brochettes (plats du jour) while two others had the mixed brochette with chicken, sausage and beef. Both dishes were excellent. Very tasty with generous serving of couscous and a vegetarian tajine with carrots, squash, potato and raisin. At less than 15 euros was a great deal. Service was casual but very friendly.

On a lazy summerevening and then to sit outside next to a little fountain, some little children playing and to eat a couscous and drink wine. What more could one want, indeed.

Walked in off the street for an evening meal and choose the set menu of asparagus, couscous with meat and vegetables and desert for about €15 or thereabouts and found it good value for an enjoyable meal.The restaurant tables are poorly laid out as the party on the next table to ours was uncomfortably close to us and this was made worse as one of their guests was a fat wheezing dog!

We were staying at the Mercure in Rouen, Champs de Mars, on a wet, cold, dreary Sunday evening. The hotel restaurant had one sad rep sitting alone at his table, and we didn't fancy warmed up, overpriced food, so we went for a quick scout round and found l'Etoile d'or. It's never going to win accolades for its cooking or its ambience - but it was a warm restaurant, with a friendly patron. The couscous, tagine and pastries were all very tasty and very generously portioned. I also tried a half bottle of some 'interesting' Algerian wine. There were a good number of diners, always a good sign, and not a few takeaway customers too. The wine, a cocktail, two mains and two deserts with tea and coffee was only just over 50 euros. Brilliant winter warmer!
