Nuovo Mondo - Roma

Good pizza, reasonably priced and a good walk back to town to work off the pizza. Love finding off the beaten path places to eat.

This is where the locals eat and the price and quality of the food reflect that. We had 2 pizzas Gorgonzola and capricciosa thin crust (how we like them) and delicious. We also had 2 bottles of wine and a bottle of water €31.50 all in. Service was good, friendly and prompt. Highly recommended!

Every time we are in Rome, we try to eat at Nuovo Mondo, a very informal restaurant; With football t-shirts on the wall and hard overhead lighting, it is not a cosy place but the food is good, especially the baccala, suppli and fried eggplant flowers. Most famous for their pizza's it is a good and busy place for a quick meal.

It takes some getting used to dining in Rome. We arrived at Nuovo Mondo a little after 6:00 p.m. No one else was there except some employees. We were seated and given menus. Next thing I see is our waiter and a few other guys walking down the street. We then noticed on the menu that they open at 6:30. We sat unattended for almost a half hour before he came back. Then we were waited on by a different waiter. Much of the staff did not speak English, but we're in Rome, so not a huge surprise. The pizza has an extremely thin crust and is uncut. It is made to eat with utensils. The pizza was large and tasted very good. It seems that Italians each get there own pie. As per the European way, you don't get your check unless you ask. (Il conto, per favore). There is a register where you pay. A surly man didn't seem to appreciate my attempt to ask if that is where we pay. There is outdoor seating. The inside is not air conditioned so there's no getting cool inside.

They have the best pizza in Rome! The food is very good and cheap, plus very friendly waiters. We didn't know that Pizza Parmigiana was the best pizza out there. We also wondered how aubergine (eggplant) tastes like on pizza since a lot of locals were ordering it. Their restaurant is very homey. We will definitely come back.
