Bidrage med feedbackDuring our one-week holiday in Eppenschlag there was much to see in the area and today I will tell you about our visit to Gabreta, the only Keltendorf in the Bavarian Forest, which was opened in 1998. We parked the car in the free car park in the immediate vicinity and climbed approx. 200 meters to the entrance of the Gabreta. We paid 6.50 euros per adult, received an audio guide and an overview card to the village. And so armed, we went on our way to learn how the Celts live. The name Gabreta comes from the Bavarian-Böhmisch Waldbergen. Since the 8th century BC, the Celts were founded in Central and Western Europe and belonged to the most important peoples of Europe. In Ringelei there was a farmer and hobby archaeologist, in his fields there were scissors and relics from the time of the Celts. But now for our visit. Amazingly, we went from one building to the next, went in and looked around and listened to the explanations of the audio guide. Unfortunately, one does not see too much in the houses, which explains or makes the lives of the Celts more alive. The buildings themselves are very well explained by the audio guide. Forging is very interesting because it is also deeper in an earth mine. Here you can see the forging furnace and the tools as well as the finished parts. The pottery house with a simple potter turntable and the pit. There are eleven houses and sights in this village. The ballroom house, the mansion, the stable, the oak grove and the Celtic stamp. The latter is one of the largest houses here in Gabreta and shows the faith of the Celts. The mountain ridge with the large steel shows the place where the dead were abandoned earlier. They received gifts so that they did not arrive in the hereafter without something useful. The flammable terraces and the herbal garden, which can be seen various Celtic plants for smoking, dyeing, cooking or healing. The oven for pottery and bread oven, every single station we looked at and listened to the explanations of the audio guide. In the stable were dwarfs goats, Skudden sheep and ponies, and outside on the grounds Orpington chickens ran around and were looking for cereals and grasses. All in all, it was an interesting visit how you learned a lot about life, agriculture and livestock farming by the audio guide. However, if any measures were taken, it would have been more rewarding. Well, it's a pretty dry museum and I think kids would get bored here. On the homepage you can read about the various events in Gabreta. Here is the right life and it shows, for example, how the Celts are baked once coloured wool, dipped, felt, handmade jewelry and bread. You can then shoot, forge, weaving or be there at the Lugnasad Celt Festival.
The Keltenstube is a small restaurant with beer garden and sufficient selection of food and drink: delicious flame cake, goulash soup, curry sausage, pommes, stew etc. Coffee and cake. Customer service and cheap prices.
The Keltendorf consists of a manageable number of huts. These are structurally in a state by which the Celts time can be traced. Otherwise, the museum village is very economical. You get an audio guide for each group. However, this is so quiet at maximum volume that it is difficult to follow the explanation. The tables at the individual huts give more. In the huts there are presentations of craftsmanship, baked bread etc. Unfortunately, we have not been able to do this because we had nothing to do with our visit. Probably the presentations make the whole much more interesting. In total it is worth visiting the museum village. But one should not raise expectations too high. The Keltenstube offers dishes before, or even after the tour, which are oriented towards the Kelten period. The quality and price are right. In the museum shop some handcrafted beautiful things can be purchased.
The “Keltenstube” is a nice small restaurant with beer garden and clear but sufficient selection: delicious flame cake, coffee and cake. Friendly service, cheap prices
Small selection, but nice and tasty with adjacent playground for some rest for parents. Prices are also fine.
