This restaurant was quite lively, but fortunately, we had made a reservation in advance. It’s one of my favorite Shanghainese spots in Richmond. The soup dumplings (XLB) were incredibly juicy, and the filling in the vegetarian dumplings, made with finely chopped vegetables and mushrooms, was very flavorful. The pork bun had a crispy exterior and was juicy on the inside. The portion sizes were generous, and the prices were very reasonable.
I would suggest avoiding the stir-fried thick noodles, as they are undercooked and surprisingly flavorless. The deep-fried red bean paste pancake is also disappointing—it's bland and not easy to perfect. However, overall, Yuan's Garden remains a great option for enjoying Shanghainese cuisine!
This Shanghainese restaurant is fantastic! I absolutely love their tomato egg dish, xiao long bao (soup dumplings), and cumin lamb. Today, we also tried the drunken chicken, which was a wonderfully fragrant and flavorful appetizer.
I had an amazing experience with the Shanghainese cuisine! I ordered the crab roe xiao long bao, which came out hot and filled with delicious broth—it’s an absolute must-try! The deep-fried yellow fish was also impressive, served with a generous portion of at least ten pieces. The preserved cabbage fish dish was quite flavorful, though it had a bit too much peppercorn in the soup, which made it a little difficult as I kept finding one or two in my spoon. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back for lunch to explore more dim sum options. A tip: parking and seating can be limited, so it’s a good idea to make a reservation in advance. There’s metered parking available along the street outside Sun Sui Wah.
