We used to go to Rusty Anchor a lot, but it became too fried and too greasy for our taste. When J. Peters bought it and revised the menu, we decided to give it a try. The Early Bird specials were spectacular. If fried is your thing, they have it, but if you prefer a lighter cuisine, they have that also. I had the prime rib and it was cooked exactly right. My wife had the salmon and it was excellent.
The Jpeters menu is a great improvement. However last night I ordered a ribeye and it was pure Grissel and fat. TERRIBLE. When I returned it, they wanted to charge me for the salad and potatoes as side items for 4 dollars each. We live down the road and keep our boat at marina and would love to frequent here more. The previous menu/ Managers had us just walking by when we docked. They missed an opportunity to make a wrong a right. The server and staff as always were polite.
In my opinion, this restaurant has a great location and a lot going for it but has struggled with the menu. The adding of the J Peters menu is a fantastic pairing of great location and food. The selections were all appetizing and diverse enough that they seem to be doing well even in off peak dining hours. The service is excellent and the food brings casual upscale lakeside dining to an area lacking for as much water as we have. The side salad was a meal, the mashed potatoes with cheese sauce melted on top are both great with probably anything on the menu. Lots of seafood, steak and sandwich options as well as salads and some terrific soups including their always amazing she crab soup!
I heard that J Peters bought this place and although I’m not the biggest fan of J Peters I was excited to check it out. We went a few days after the change and it was a positive experience. The staff are still learning the menu and the wait staff was slow but the food was great! We had the She crab soup, j Peters salad, peel and eat shrimp and my husband had prime rib. All food was good, well prepared and came out quickly. The server was overwhelmed and drinks were wrong and order a bit messed up but the place was packed and all of this is new to her so we were very understanding. I am exited to have this restaurant in Chapin and hoping they stay open year round! Very good first experience and expect it will only get better.
