Bidrage med feedbackThe new location is beautiful and run by the same woman as the one on 4th street. I adore the ambiance, with African music videos playing in the background and a warm, inviting atmosphere. I have never seen it overly crowded and am curious how it manages to stay afloat. My favorite dishes are the mesir wat and tikil gomen. The food is simple and traditional, but the prices are unique for Reno.
I ordered the vegetarian combination platter, which typically includes three dishes. I enjoyed all the food in one sitting. The cost was $32 and the portion size was generous, coming with extra injera. While it was a tasty meal, I have found similar dishes elsewhere for $12-15. It's possible they charge more for ordering each dish separately. The staff were friendly. I recommend inquiring about the use of butter in the vegetarian dishes.
We are huge fans of Ethiopian dips and always try to seek them out when we are in the Bay Area. While we have visited some fantastic restaurants, this place near our newly discovered home is the top choice for us. We tried four out of the six vegan entrees and loved them all (they are labeled as vegetarian, but we confirmed with the previous review that they are vegan). We also enjoyed a delightful sweet ginger tea, but be sure to ask about the sweetener used, as the owner uses both sugar and honey interchangeably.
We relatively new vegans, and used to come to this restaurant before. We remembered that they had many veggie dishes, but werent sure if they used dairy or ghee in them still. We called ahead and double checked once we arrived as well, and were assured that the veggie dishes were vegan. We got 3.. .the Mesir Wat (Lentils), Tikil Gomen(Cabbage), and Gomen(Collard Greens). Its served on delicious and hearty Injera bread with more on the side. You use the bread as the silverware and eat with your hands. It was so delicious. Boldly but responsibly seasoned, super savory, and every dish was very unique despite them all sounding very similar on the menu. I like the spot and the owner/cook is a sweetheart, I'd love to see them get more business and stick around. Perhaps even add a few more veg dishes.
The staff at this restaurant was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The entire vegetarian section of the menu is actually vegan, which was a pleasant surprise. I recommend selecting individual entrees rather than the combo option, as they will all be served on the same Injera platter. It is also best to dine with other vegans to avoid sharing Injera with meat dishes. The Injera had a taste similar to a sourdough crepe. My favorite dish was number 17. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would definitely return. I highly recommend this restaurant.
