The Mountain House - Redwood City

Absolute Michelin Material. Eat here. Especially considering all the challenges this place faced opening, as mentioned in the SF Gate Article. Unforgettable dining experience.

It is in a beautiful location. It took us 45 minutes to drive there. There is a lot of parking, but it was all filled we had to squeeze in along the side of the road. We arrived 10 minutes early but would not seat us. When they, they placed us in the room with the fire place. I think they need to have it looked at or open up the damper more. There was a very smokey smell (which can interfere with your taste). If you have breathing issues you may want to eat skip this place. My throat was soar by the end of our meal. Atmosphere was so-so. We had a lot of servers going back and forth and around us. It took 10 minutes for our waitress to come by after we were seated. We placed drink orders that were overlooked. I had to ask on of the young servers to check on it. 5 minutes later. bread drinks and our first course showed up. Bread and water should of showed up first, then our cocktails then our first course. I had the butternut squash soup. It was very silky but bland (so sad) My friend had the salad with blue cheese, which was good. I had the chicken as my main dish. It was overcooked. My friend had the prime rib, which he liked and loved the potatoes. He had the bread pudding for dessert, which he loved. I had the banana pie...which was more crust than banana filling. In terms of meals...he won. Living in the Bay Area, I have had better meals than this for a lot less money. Oh and they automatically put on 20% tip. She would not have gotten that from us. Will I go back? No. Not worth the time or money.

Eat among the redwood trees but indoors on this cozy place. Reservations are always good, but i noticed people eating at the bar. We saw Santa and one of his lady elves dropping by. He is a bit early, but maybe he is checking out who is naughty and nice. We got seating on the tree side. They do light up some trees outside but hard to tell since the reflection of lights from the window was hard to see. We got two slices of complimentary bread. Extras will cost you $5. But the bread was so good, crispy crust and sourdough taste and soft in the inside. We were treated garbanzo bean cubes. Two little cubes. Delicious. The cream on top seems to have tiny Sriracha sauce. This is a set menu so i won't write about the choices. Check on line. We had quail and scallops first course. Bass and Sonoma chicken. Chocolate bar and Bourbon banana cream pie. You can tell if your guests like the food by how clean their plates are. Scallop was hugh (2). Quail was stuffed (my first choice). Fish skin was super crispy and so was the chicken, which came with super creamy sweet potato. I had the maitaka mushroom. I didn't taste the bourbon. That chocolate bar had hazelnut crust and so chocolatety! With espresso ice cream. At the very end, two complimenatarey little marmalade miniature tiny! cake. Service was great. Thank you Eder, our server. Delightful. 20% automatic service charge. You leave there $107 per person. Well worth it. I saw someone ordering ribeye and hamburger, so there are options. We weren't told, but i was super happy with what we got. The portion was big enough. No idea why someone commented small portions. We had a lovely dinner. It is super dark driving home. You with the high beam, lower them. Saw 3 deers nearby.

Family decided to stop for the first time. I look forward to returning with an appetite as everything looked delicious. Tonight my friend ordered a mixed drink I just sipped on tea. Service was fast and the restaurant smelled delicious. Cozy spot in the middle of the woods.

We love coming to this special place for dinner, the chef's have outdone themselves, the food could not be tastier an the presentation awesome. They have kept the feel of the place the same as it has been for years which we love. A special place we love to visit and enjoy thoroughly each time we dine there.
