We had high hopes after the restaurant changed hands. Garry Prebble the previous owner had lost interest in the food service it seemed and was increasingly not a people person. Enter Nick Stone. He is just not a Redfern person. He immediately hiked the prices in this neighbourhood it's most unwelcome. $40 for a main is criminal. Nick is a hospo guy. The tatts and the style is not French and not Redfern. I've heard from neighbours he is not easy to deal with either. The food is not quite french. It's a hodge podge of loosely based themed stuff. It's not regional or faithful to any identifiable Gallic culinary tradition. Overall another same samey place trading on a romantic concept.
This restaurant provided a mediocre experience. The duck breast was overcooked, the potatoes were underdone, and the overall taste was fairly bland. The food did not meet the expectations considering the price.
A friendly welcome by Marcel, who showed us to a lovely table by the window. Queen Scallops with sausage accompanied a tasty sauce which my husband mopped up with St Jacques bread and whipped dill butter. I had cream cheese topped with tuna eggs and the lightest of delicious beignets. We followed this with whole flounder fish, which had been well seasoned and came with caper sauce. The wine was a great Cotes du Rhône red GSM, organic wine, reasonably price. The crème caramel was superb. Service and friendliness of both owner Nick and Marcel were great and we wish them and the rest of the staff every success. There is also a private dinning area in the wine cellar. Will definitely be coming back when returning to Sydney in 2023. Thank you for a most enjoyable and relaxing lunch guys.
Clearly overpriced Food was really OK but not worth to be so expensive. We just felt that we have been trapped with This bill mentioning minimum 100$ per person without being notified previously . Poor communication and lack of transparency on wine prices make me feel that I got played … Very disappointed as this is not the way we do in France so if you want to do French Style be honest first !
