Café Del Sol - Randburg

Like most reviews I’ve seen about this Cafe del sol I had a lot of built up anticipation as I’d wanted to visit it for a while. I finally had a chance on my visit to Jo’burg and asked for a medium lamb rack for my mains. Two of the people I was with asked for medium-well racks and we all essentially got the same order, a well done lamb rack each. My niece who did not enjoy her order of nona’s ragu tried my lamb and liked it so I asked the waiter for an ‘additional meal’ of the lamb rack stating that I had not received what I asked for. This is when the person I imagine to be the manager came over to try and rectify the situation. But I think in their enthusiasm to try and rectify this they completely forgot to listen to what I had actually asked for a second time! On their own insistence that this be a rectification they brought back a ‘replacement’ lamb, which unfortunately for me meant no risotto. I think in both instances if the waiter, manager or chef had simply listened the experience would have have been significantly better! I wanted an additional i.e. charged meal, done right this time because my niece actually enjoyed the well done lamb and in that way it did not go to waste at all. But what I actually got on the insistence of the waiter and manager was an incomplete meal because these two simply didn’t listen and instead of just making me the complete meal like I asked and charging me for it which I would have gladly paid for, gave me an incomplete experience. I wasn’t left with very many choices by these two and was not going to bother explaining something so simple again to people unwilling to just give the order as asked. I can’t rate the main meal at all as the experience was truly incomplete. I imagine it would have been good. The starters were fine, the waiter’s recommendation was good here. In conclusion I think if you’re content to have the experience exactly as the manager or waiter dictates, with no consideration for your own preferences you might like this place, if on the other hand you’d like the ability to choose to add a meal if you please you may not enjoy this Cafe del sol unfortunately...or until the manager and waiters learn to listen better.

I’ve been wanting to visit here for about 4 years now but simply never got around to it until last night. I have to say that it lived up to all the expectations and positive reviews that I read. Excellent service, beautiful food and great ambiance. I will definitely come back soon

Best risotto in town! The staff is friendly and nice and the food is always great! The pasta is also very nice and the cheese cake is delicious.

Cafe del sol is my go to for genuinely always good fine dining food. The dishes are always fantastic and tasty. The ambience is modern and clean. The service is brilliant. Really a place to try.

I recently visited the new restaurant at Blueberry Center and was disappointed by the lack of acoustic design— we had to shout just to hear each other. The waiter mixed up our starter order and the timing was off as well. The carbonara was not authentic; it had cream instead of the traditional egg yolk. Moreover, I couldn't get my coffee at the same time as others received their desserts. It seems that management has not properly trained the staff. I would recommend skipping this restaurant; there are plenty of better options available.
