Bidrage med feedbackWe had a great time at Barkerville even though half of their activities weren't up and running post c19. There were still several period actors stolling around that you could talk with. It was entertaining to be thrown back in time, and see things the way they were back during the gold rush times. The Chinese homes were facinating (they could have used several more ethnic Chinese actors). The shops are expensive, but that is true of any secondary purchases at a theme park. I loved that they had a seniors rate to get in, and that we saved another 10% because we were a group of four. Go see this, it's a hoot.
It’s a very special place. It’s very interesting to walk around in the town and see a lot of historical things. I had a great experience at this place several years ago. I always want to go back again with kids. They will love gold panning and the shows as I did.
Decided to take the drive up to here. Besides the super scenery on the way up, this place is amazing. We were there for the water wheel demonstration. Very impressed with the guys who portrayed the gold mine owners.
The signs were informative, and I learned about mining and living in this town in the 1800’s. You can go into many homes and buildings, and easily see inside numerous others. They often had the front door open with a gate so you couldn’t enter, but the open doorway gave a good view of the interior. We only did one of the presentations inside: we listened to a judge talk about a trial that happened in the 1800’s. He clearly has acting experience, which brought it to life while he showed us how trials worked back then. We also heard three costumed towns people (from back in the day) talking about how the town should move forward since the mining was less prolific than in earlier days. I was interested to hear the different views. We visited on a Tuesday the last week before they closed for the season. The shops were fun to browse. I bought a metal coat hook (a cat with a curling tail as a hook) from the general store. At the bakery we bought sourdough bread (soft and flavorful) and an apple turnover. The bakery sold savory and sweet pastries, and everything looked delicious.
Absolutely historical and recommend visiting this place. the history and stories to be told within by the buildings along with all the staff and actors. the plays that get put on are outstanding. I remember visiting here when I was just a child and now over 30 years later I have brought my children to see the magic and learn the history. It made it helpful for them as they were also doing a project in school about the history of Barkerville BC.
