Bidrage med feedbackAuthentic cuisine that makes us discover exotic dishes. the best naan bread ever tasted. well balanced and cheap meals. cc for two to $48. The lamb was excellent!
I shall say at first that I'am not an Indian, nor vegeterian, neither a consumer of take out food. I've traveled a lot around the world, in each continent. So, I think I can appreciate food and I've experienced a lot because I always go to ethnic cuisine. My friend and I, we eat at this restaurant once every two months and almost each time we loved the food. We take the complete diner meal for 2, the CC. At first, they offer you a kind of ultralite crispy bread with three types of dipping sauce: carrot, yogourt and spicy veggies. So nice when waiting. Then came quickly the apetizer : a nice kind of handmade sausage with a fruity spicy sauce, yummy, a little salad with an onion baji (crispy and tender deepfried onion ball) served with a yogourt sauce. As the main meal, I usually take : butter chicken, lamb bhouna in a tomato sauce spicy, veggies in a curry sauce and a nice perfumed rice with a nan bread. But yesterday night, I took : butter chicken, shrimp khorma in a curry sauce with coconut and dried grapes, veggies in a curry sauce and a nice perfumed rice with a nan bread. It was so delicious. Yes it was sweet and I like it that way ! But I should say that in this restaurant it is less sweet than in others. That is why I go there. For desert, they served us a baba ganouj, light ball in sirup. This year, that restaurant DO NOT desserve the bad comments. It is really good. You must try it. You can bring your own bottle of wine and you can grab a coupon on internet to get a 15% off or a rebate of 20.$ That is very good. The service is cool and nice.It surely worth a visit
Excellent and authentic food. all with a great service offered by a friendly staff. I'll go back!
I should have seen the red flags when I saw the menu. The description of their curries read "exotic spices." I guess they chose to stay ambiguous because they lack the basic knowledge of indian spices, and are clueless about the indian cuisine. This review is definitely my longest, because it was such a disappointing experience. So if you don't want to read it all, just read this bit: Everything was sweet. Like it felt like the cook mistook salt for sugar. It was that painfully sweet. It felt like the cook was not tasting what he was putting out because no-one in their right mind would serve and put their name on food like that. I felt insulted for paying for food that went straight into the dumpster. It ruined our night and honestly saddens me that they got people in quebec city thinking that they're getting a taste of indian cuisine. My friend and I wanted indian takeout so we went through their menu rather quickly, we have both eaten out at indian restaurants countless times so we knew exactly what we wanted : Lamb Madras, Garlic Naan, Normal Naan, Raita, Rice with Peas. For those who aren't familiar with indian cuisine, these happen to be very basic dishes.Lamb Madras: Even if this dish were good, it wouldn't have been enough for the two of us, as they barely filled have the container with the curry. This dish was an absolute disaster. I didn't know what I was tasting, it was just an overwhelming amount of oil and spices cooked until all the veggies lost their freshness. Not to mention the tomatoes used to garnish this dish were bigger than the pieces of lamb.Naan: Both were burnt, and sweet. Naan is not supposed to burnt or sweet. We could barely take more than one bite.Rice with Peas: We paid $8 for rice with peas, and instead got their simple rice. One would think an indian restaurant cannot simply mess this one up. Wrong. Not only were fennel seeds used to flavour the rice (first time I've ever seen this), but the rice was also lightly coloured pink. Such an eye sore. I couldn't even eat more than one spoonful. Had to salvage it by stir frying some onions and cumin in a little bit of turmeric . So much for having a take out kind of a night.Raita: I think this was the biggest disappointment of all. Because just like the rice, this is such a basic indian dish. Raita is meant to bring freshness to the table. The raita we got was just dreadful and sad. It was so watered down and so, so sweet. The spices or herbs used in there were unrecognizable. Words cannot describe how disappointed we were. Also, the amount of raita we got, barely filled half the container. Almost felt like we were paying for someone else's leftovers. So for those of you out there looking for an indian gastronomical experience. Please save your money, as this is an offence to indian food. Instead just google a few recipes and make it yourself at home, you'll do a far better job then the cooks over at this restaurant.Note to the cook/owner: Do head over to any restaurant in Montreal on rue Jean-Talon Ouest and give their food a try.Take some inspiration and save the people of Quebec the horror.
