The Depot - Prairie Du Chien

The bratwurst with onions and cabbage was absolutely amazing—definitely the best I've ever had. There's no need to worry about service; the staff is friendly and will recognize you when you come back. You can also enjoy a fantastic view of the Mississippi River, both from inside the restaurant and on the patio.

During a Sunday drive from Dubuque, we made a stop along the river at Prairie du Chien on Saint Feriole Island. To our delight, we discovered a gem called the Depot. It was such a lovely day that we all opted for Bloody Marys (which were excellent) and some Spotted Cow beer. We enjoyed our drinks on the patio, watching boats glide by on the river and observing people on carriage rides around the island. One member of our group tried their take on a McMuffin, which paired perfectly with the Bloody Mary. The food being served to other patrons also looked appetizing, especially the crinkle fries. Although we had to place our orders at the bar, the wait staff was attentive and brought the food out to those sitting on the patio.

During my time there, the bartender also took a moment to complain about the local city council, saying they were trying too hard to act important. After that experience, I ended up living in the area for nearly a year and never returned. Why would I go to a place without tap beer and with poor drink options? I really wanted this restaurant to be a regular spot for me because it has a great location and an interesting backstory. Instead, I recommend checking out the Blackhawk or the steakhouse, where they really know how to craft excellent drinks.

The atmosphere is great! A great spot, next to a still working train tracks, the river. The inside is really nice nice woodwork, good seating, large bar. All kinds of beers in bottles, not sure if they had beer on tap (will check next time i'm in! Lots of photos of the history of Prairie du Chien. At 5pm they started making cajun food as well! not sure if this was a permanent thing, but that food was good! This is slowly becoming one of our favorite places!

Nice bar, great location...no tap beer, ****** Mary's were average at best....service wasn't the fastest but the bartender was very nice.
