Los Portales Mexican - Powder Springs

I'm really glad they moved to a new location. The new place is much more attractive and easier to find. The food is consistently fresh, and the staff is always friendly. What more could you want? They have the best margaritas in town!

As soon as I opened the Styrofoam container, I felt a wave of disappointment. The fish appeared old and unappealing, despite being breaded and fried. It was piled high with shredded iceberg lettuce (which raised an eyebrow), pico de gallo, and an odd orange sauce. After just one bite, I knew something was off with the fish, and while I didn’t spot any, it had a strong cilantro smell—which I absolutely can't stand. The French fries that accompanied the meal looked (and ultimately tasted) like they had been cooked days ago. I didn’t take off any stars for the disappointing fries since I often take that risk when ordering from a Mexican or even Chinese restaurant, where less popular items can end up freezer burned or poorly prepared. I snapped a few photos and attempted to eat the food, but it was just too bad. Fearing the fish would upset my stomach, I decided to throw it away and drove across the street to a competing restaurant. Check out the photos. Another place crossed off my list.

We used to visit this restaurant frequently, but we won't be coming back. We found a cockroach crawling on our table, and when I brought it to our server's attention, her response was completely inadequate. Instead of handling the situation, she simply handed me the check without any apologies or explanations, like mentioning if they had recently sprayed for pests. The level of customer service was astonishingly poor. She then returned to a booth with three other servers to fold napkins, ignoring the problem entirely. I believe the health department should seriously think about shutting this place down!

Consistently great food. Makes my crazy special order without making me feel like I am inconveniencing them. We used to sit and watch everyone play trivia because it was a hoot. Cant wait for that to come back. The staff has always been kind and made their best effort. It has been hard during COVID and even now while hiring is so difficult. Wont catch me anywhere else for my Mexican fix!

Over cooked rice, what appears to be sour cream in guacamole, gross mushrooms, streak that is lack luster and sad. Absolutely do not go here if you like Mexican. Never ordering from here again.
