Trovato casualmente (e solo ora viste le recensioni) . semplici sardine asadas, con contorno, vino boanco, all aperto, prezzo piu che economico. sardine freschissime, ben cucinate e ben condite.
This restaurant offers the most amazing food it was the best meal I had in Portugal. It was exceptional value for money and the service was personal. As the evening went on the restaurant filled to capacity and you never rushed to move out.
We were attracted by the look of this place and its apparent popularity. Although there was meat on the menu, we chose to have fish because it seemed that was the speciality. We both ordered dourada, thinking that we would be served 1 'dose ' which generally means enough for two. We both got a smallish fish with some boiled potatoes and cabbage. It was fine: nothing special. The white wine which the waiter recommended was really awful. I noticed no one else had been served that one and all the locals were drinking carafe wine. When the bill arrived, we were charged for bread we hadn 't touched, 2 doses of dourada and the undrinkable wine. The bill was 3 times what we paid nearby for similar food and nicer wine. Maybe something was lost in translation because all the locals were loving it and queuing to get in. My advice is walk a bit further down that street. One block from this place is the Cafe Melro where the food and drink were excellent, the waiters efficient and nice and everything including soup, bread, main course, water and wine was covered in the Prato do Dia choices.
This restaurant is one street back from the beach front in Póvoa de Varzim. It’s very busy mostly with locals who obviously know where to get good, tasty and reasonably priced food. Specialising in perfectly cooked seafood and some meat dishes. The portions are huge, so order a couple of dishes to share. I can recommend the grilled sardines, the house style bacalhau (salt cod) and the roasted goat. All delicious. Good selection of wines available. There were a selection of homemade deserts that looked good, but I was too full to attempt them. There is nothing ‘fancy’ about this restaurant. It’s small and the tables are neatly squeezed in. The busy waiters are very pleasant and welcoming and deserve their tips.
