Haugen's Chicken Ribs Barbeque

I finally got to try the Famous Haugen's in Port Perry. This has been on my list since I saw it on Food Networks You Gotta Eat Here. My first impressions were it's a huge restaurant. Way larger than I expected. The decor is old school which is fine with me since I'm here for the food. I had the Chicken and Rib Combo. It's a quarter chicken with a 1/3 rack of ribs with your choice of side. I went with the fries but you could get coleslaw, baked potato, salad etc.Let's start with the chicken. Extra juicy and super tender. It was a fairly large portion since I decided to go for the white meat. It was not dry at all super hot and fresh. One thing I noticed was the chicken was not salty at all! It was perfectly seasoned. The ribs were very tender. They still had a bit of a chew to them which I like. The bbq sauce on the ribs was nice, a little smokey a little sweet. The fries were super crispy and fresh cut. They were excellent. The dinner roll was nice and soft a perfect side to this meal. The meal also came with some dipping sauce. I forgot to take a photo of it it but it was like a Tomato type sauce. For me it was Ok I'm not a huge tomato sauce guy so maybe next time I will try and see if they have any other sauces available. Overall the meal was great. I was very full after all that food but I saved some room for some pie! I went with the Coconut Creme Pie! It was a nice sized piece. Nice and creamy and it hit the spot. My wife had the strawberry pie and I think that was the winner! It was super loaded up with strawberry and topped with whipped cream. We will definitely be back to Haugen's! The prices are fair and the food is great. I also want to shout out to the servers they were super nice and very efficient. We felt very welcomed by all. Check out Haugen's you won't be disappointed.

This place disappointed. I saw the 4 star ratings and thought this place should be decent, but nope. The food is bland. Ordered bbq pulled chicken and chicken breast sandwich. Chicken breast has no seasoning at all just mayo. Fries have zero salt. Their bbq sauce is not what I would call a bbq sauce. Tastes more like tomato sauce. If you like typical sweet bbq sauce, you will not like it. Overall I 'm surprised by the positive reviews given the blend food and bbq sauce. I won 't be back. If you 're looking for good portion for cost, then this is your place. If you like flavor, this place is a pass.

I mean it's decent rotisserie chicken. Someone mentioned Swiss chalet in the reviews and honestly that's pretty spot on. It's a bit better but is it worth driving up for? No. Is it a nice sit down place on the way up to the cottage, yes for sure. The coconut cream pie is insane, most likely because of all the whipped cream.

Food was ok, service was great but the pie? $8 for this? Very disappointing! I'll come back, but will skip the rip-off deserts!

A good place to stop in with the kids on your way to the cottage! A bit pricey for the type of food, but a good option for a quick sit-down meal. Clean'ish washrooms
