Bidrage med feedbackWe had dinner here on the day two of our stay in Pont Aven and were thrilled with the friendly and competent service, We chose traditional Breton tea, healthy fish casserole and oven baked shells filled with garlic butter and braided pork cheeks...with apple sauce and apple with a cheap bottle of Pouilly Fuisse. A happy evening in a beautiful little town. Very good value. Select one of the menus,
We waited for people to wait for the next table and left. We ordered Trio de poissons and when it finally arrived, there was a miniscule piece of cod, salmon that frozen and a small sardine.... It was terrible. We complained, but only a carpet. Obviously, there are enough people who come through in August that they don't mind giving bad services. In addition, the waitress spiled a red fish sauce over my partner's shirt and didn't even apologize. When I complained, yes, another carpet.
My husband and I were the only Americans staying at the hotel at the time. The French like their two star accommodations. They know they'll get a clean room and decent, although not spectacula, food. We were treated very warmly by the staff of both...the hotel and restaurant (which sometimes overlapped). The menu is nothing extraordinary and similar to other coastal establishments. The seafood is very fresh.
We visited on the 4th September at the beginning of a short break to the area, and had a welcoming and warm reception from the waiter. I ordered moules marinere to start and a medium to well done filet steak and my partner soup de...poisson to start and a medium filet steak. The seak was described as the maitre de speciality. My moules were lacking in taste, and really small though the liquid was a little better. The soup de poisson was very watery and lacked taste. The steak arrived looking very rare for both of us. It was fortunate the waiter had provided very sharp steak knives, as it was still impossible to cut two thirds of my portion at all. The parts of the supposed filet that could be cut after a struggle needed chewing for an age before a piece could be swallowed. I eventually gave up as I was afraid I might lose my teeth or damage my jawbone. On reflection I should not have tried to eat it at all after the first piece as it was probably a part of something that should not have been eaten by anyone. My partners was a little better as it was able to be cut, but needed much chewing. She eventually gave up the struggle too. I mentioned the awful steak to the waiter, but this only raised a Gallic shrug of the shoulders. We decided not to stay any longer and departed 80 euros lighter with the feeling we had been robbed.
Unfriendly server, eager to see us leave (13h30). The entrance to the original and pleasant artichokes. oysters are not first freshness and mussels seem to be desalated and pre-cooked and cream sauce without taste. meat a little too cooked and not exceptional. short, for a menu at 22€, very disappointing.
