Theos Tavern - Pinehurst

The food is flavorful. The wine list is extensive. We enjoyed the interior and exterior decor. Our wait staff was very friendly and provided us space to familiarize ourselves with the menu. Our criticism was the dining room temperature was set to 65; it was chilly. But our waiter adjusted it for us. This restaurant is in the center of the historic district of Pinehurst. As we've discovered with the other restaurants here, things are more expensive. For dinner for two, I'd estimate it is overpriced by $15 to $20. That would be compared to the same in another city. We ate here for lunch and we enjoyed it. All of the food was good. The bruschetta was our least favorite as the tomatoes were a bit mushy. The salad was the best thing we ordered and was a great mix of cool and warm and just really good. The service was also great. They have a nice outdoor area as well.

Authentic Greek food with a creative wine list. Outside seating is a must during nice weather. Equally great for a romantic dinner or outing with a group.

This is a very hard review to write because it was our waiter 's first day on the job. The place was slammed and there were many serving mistakes. But our waiter was doing the best he could. I wish him luck and I think with experience he will excel. Now on to the food. The best word to describe the food is meh . High high prices, (we are on the Pinehurst Resort property), but still there were many misses. Cold not cooked potatoes, bland meat, rock hard butter for microwave over steamed bread, stale pita and an average meal price of 33.00. I could go on. Try another place if you want better food. If you want ambiance and to eat on the property, it is what it is.

Tonight A group of us met at Theo's to enjoy a meal together after our conference. Some started with Sangria, some with a bottle of Argentinian wine, and some with Southern Pines beer. The location is an old house with rooms. You do need reservations to get a seat normally. It was very loud with several groups in the restaurant. I always found it sad when a restaurants appetizers outshine their main course. Unfortunately that was the case tonight. The homemade bread with olive oil dip was fantastic. We started with some olive oil, olives and feta; the eggplant appetizer semicolon the shrimp in a red sauce, and the chicken sausage. The olives were her the perfect mix of brine and tart, the eggplant was pleasantly garlicky and had a texture of a ragu. I think I would go back in the future for just appetizers and drinks and move to another restaurant for the main course. The restaurant featured six or seven specials including a stuffed grouper and a halibut on a bed of lemon risotto. One person at our table ordered the calzone which he said needed more cheese and stuffing and was heavy on the bread. Two of us ordered the stuffed grouper and were pleasantly surprised at the flavors. 2 people ordered the halibut and we're very pleased with the cook on the fish in the seasoning on the risotto. One person ordered spaghetti and found it to be ordinary. It took our group two and a half hours because the main course was delayed so long. Of course we had plenty of time for conversation but this is not the place if you are in a hurry.
