Thai Orchid - Pickering

Lots of reviews about the customer service, we witnessed the chef's not so nice attitude towards the server perhaps contributing towards her overall demeanor. Rice noodles with ketchup sauce was edible with their wonderful spicy chili oil and leftover peanut sauce from the appetizer platter. The reviewers who called this authentic Pad Thai and made me detour out of my way needs to be punished by eating fries without ketchup for a whole year. Green curry was good though.

On this visit, I had the Chili Chicken, served with a spring roll and rice. It was a generous serving of chicken, and a decent sized spring roll, but I would have preferred a bit more rice to balance the meal. It tasted pretty good but with nearby Hakka restaurants serving similar dishes for a lower price, it's not such a great deal. I'll be back for my favourite dish here, Thai Spicy Noodles, with chicken or beef.

Been going here for years and the food has always been good and plentiful. I especially love the Tofu Curry!

First of all the service was terrible, it was like my server didn’t want me there although it was prompt. I had the vegetable spring rolls and red chicken curry. Spring rolls were good but the sauce was generic Thai Chili sauce I was hoping for something different like a Tamarind Chutney or something creative. As for the curry it was not great at all. When I get a Thai curry I expect that great balance between sweet coconut and palm sugar, sour lime juice, salty fish sauce and spicy. That balance was no where to be found. It was chicken, sauce which was sweet and coconut heavy and green beans. No aromatics like shallots or lemon grass not any herbs like Thai basil or cilantro. It was eatible but far from great.

Enjoyed the 'lunch special ' on a Saturday in May with my daughter. The gentleman who served us was very friendly and made some food suggestions. The meal came very quickly and was hot and tasty. Would definitely return.
