Bidrage med feedbackI love this place!!! The atmosphere was lively and very welcoming when I came. It’s a good spot to come with friends or even family/kids. Our gamekeeper Wes was so helpful in narrowing down game options for us and we ended up enjoying each game. The people and service is amazing :D I’ll be returning in the
Queen Rook is something really special. My girlfriend and I were visiting a friend in Philly and chose to come to G R on our last evening in town. For context, neither of them are big board game or TCG players. What an experience. We asked the owner initially what games would be quick so we could start easy and he gave us 3 great choices of varying complexity. Ultimately my group decided they wanted to learn Magic the Gathering. The owner ran to the other store to personally curate Start Up packs for us to create our own decks with and learn. Not only that but when my girlfriend won her first game of Magic, he treated her to a winner 's pack and gave each of us a prize card. It really made for a special evening and created a welcoming atmosphere. He explained the cafe has made a lot of strides with being more inclusive with women and the LGBTQ community and I believe it. The drinks were also wonderful (Try the Bulbasaur if it 's available). If you 're a local, I strongly recommend checking out G R. I know it will be on our return to list on future trips.
It was so hot and no AC. They put 3 fans which make no difference and the food was so oily that we couldn't eat at all. Tables were also dirty. I have no idea how others were able to sit in there, outside was around 85° and the inside was hotter than the outside. Seriously do not go there, especially in the summer, at least they didn't make us pay, but we did only spend less than 10 minutes in there. I'm not sure how a business can run like that
We decided to stop by on a whim, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience. After we struggled to choose our initial games, Wesley (if I remember correctly) asked us some questions and selected the ideal games for us. We ordered some coffee and played a few rounds, making for a delightful afternoon boost. Although we were only visiting Philadelphia for the weekend, we couldn’t stop discussing our desire to return before we left. I highly recommend this place (make sure to get a reservation)!
My date night turned out to be a lot of fun and quite different from the usual activities. I met up with a few friends, unsure of what to expect. The game master approached us and asked about our preferences in board games. He then returned with an impressive list tailored just for us, much like a wine sommelier would do. He had options for those who wanted to chat as well as for those who were eager to dive right into games. While the food wasn’t the highlight of the evening, we definitely had a great time, and they even offered some creative wizard-themed cocktails. As for vegetarian options, I’m not vegan myself, but my friend seemed to enjoy what they had.
