Peso da Régua was our 11th stop , we were following the Douro Valley (5* . We spent an evening dining in this restaurant mainly frequented by locals. Entrance is atypical and walk down untill door opening on the small room downstairs which is a mini bar including the direct sales under glass stalls of suckling pig, veal or pork ribs, cold meats prepared on site for takeaway. Climb few steps on left and then arrive at the dining room. A dining room with a simple and ergonomic but pleasant design, everything was neat and well kept. The young waiter was more than friendly and our exchanges in French, Portuguese and English mixed together were quite fun . Very welcome atmosphere with the locals and we even met the captain , and his chief mate , being in command of one of the Douro cruise ships at berth and who instinctively advised us about wine to choose ! The Master and Commander gave good advice
