Bidrage med feedbackThis place is very reasonably priced and affordable as a student. The food is great too! And it's BYO.Dumplings taste great and so do the skewers, bento boxes and noodle soups.I have been here a few times this week and will be back many times in the future.Staff are always friendly too.
This restaurant has just been opened for a few weeks and serves food from Shaanxi Province of which Xian is the capital (where Terracotta Warriors are). It's simple menu is divided into 4 sections, being Xian Special Cuisine, Noodles, Cold Dishes, and Dim Sum. We were recommended to try the Sizzling Pan Fried Dumplings - which is a specialty tourists to Xian are taken to sample. We also ordered the Mash Garlic with Cucumber Salad which was nice and refreshing for a hot afternoon. Lastly, the Noodles with QiShan Spicy & Sour Pork is worth a try - the noodles are made of light purified wheat flour, served with mashed slightly fatty meat, flavored with spicy and sour spices. It is also known as Saozi Noodles (sister-in-law noodles) which originated from QiShan County in Shaanxi.
We walked past this restaurant by chance, while on the way to another restaurant and after our first dinner, we weren't full enough so decided to drop by to try out their dumplings menu. Impressive Cuisine specialises in Xi An food and also has a big variety of grilled skewers. The smell of charcoal-grilled meat was amazing but we were equally excited about the various dumpling types.Steamed prawn dumplings and Steamed prawn & scallop dumplings: These were pretty standard. They're just as average as any other dumpling places we've been to so while they're not bad, there's nothing really special about them. (6/10)Steamed prawn & chives dumplings: These were our favourite dumplings from this place. The chives flavour was present how it should be and the prawn tasted fresh. (8/10)Steamed pork & peanuts dumplings: These were by far the WORST dumplings I have EVER tasted in my life. These Teochew fung gow's flavour combination was strange, the texture was a weird paste, the abundance of peanuts added nothing to the pleasantry of the filling and it just left a gritty taste in our mouths. This was unanimously our least favourite dumplings of the night, if not EVER. Maybe we're just not used to fung gow, maybe this place made bad fung gow, but it would take a lot of convincing for me to ever try this again. (0/10)Steamed chicken siumai: We did not enjoy these siumai at all, the chicken did not taste like chicken, there was hardly any seasoning or real flavours in these and they were super dry. They definitely needed more fat in the filling to make it juicer and less dense. (1/10)Steamed Shanghai pork dumplings: You can tell by the look of the folds that they are home-made but they were dry and not very juicy when they hit the table. There was hardly any juice as we bite into the dumplings and the filling was nothing special. (2/10)Steamed pork & prawn siumai: We weren't really sure if these were slightly better than the chicken ones because of the moisture in the peas & carrot that gave them a bit of juiciness but the pork was full of sinew that at one point Yenny had massive problems eating her piece. These siumai were also super dense and needed a lot more fat. (1/10)- FINAL RATING: 3.4 / 10 -AVG PRICE: $1.38 / dumplingOur dining experience at Impressive Cuisine today was nowhere good enough to warrant another visit but other items on their menu might, especially the meat skewers. As far as dumplings go, unfortunately these were amongst one of the worst dumpling joints I've ever been to. The only great thing about our dinner here is the intense chilli oil, that is definitely awards-worthy. Apart from that, sorry to say we won't be back anytime soon.
After a long wait, I finally visited PappaRich, a Malay Hawker style restaurant located in Northbridge. This restaurant has been open for a couple of years now.
This restaurant makes me feel like I am back home in Malaysia. I tried the satay chicken and it truly lived up to its reputation as a home-cooked favorite. The meal was definitely authentic Malaysian cuisine.
