Bidrage med feedbackHello TrippiesSomeone i know from penticton told me to try out the Hooded Merganser while visiting town.It took me about 20 minutes or more to get acknowledged. By the time the server came around I had already picked out my meal. I didn't even get water or a drink at this point. I ordered my mojito and Sante Fe salad at the same time. I'm a foodie and this was the first time my meal came faster than the bartender could whip up my mojito. LolThere was a reason. Pardon my bluntness. It sucked in all ways. The chicken was for sure microwaved. I may as well have spiced up the rubber on my shoe and ate that instead. It had some sort of yogurt dressing that didn't taste like anything. Epic fail on the salad. The mojito was good. I would have had a couple more but the whole experience turned me off enough I didn't want to give the Merganser another dollar. If you want to pay for the view then try them out. If your looking for a full experience including service, unique tasty dishes with the view I would say skip the Merganser. After reading 1/2 dozen "all-over-the-map" Trip Advisor reviews of the Hooded Merganser, we came close to not going there for dinner. I am so glad we did go. It was fantastic ... a HIGHLIGHT of our 3-day trip to Penticton. It starts with a stunning location on Lake Okanagan ... literally. Piles have been sunk in the sand to prevent waves from crashing into the floor-to-ceiling windows on the north side of the building. We had hoped to sit outside but decided against doing so because of strong winds. I didn't want to be in a race to eat my food before it got cold. No matter. We sat at a window table and were able to enjoy the gorgeous view without battling the whitecap-inducing winds. Our server was a hoot, answering my question about her name with "Tonight my name is Susie". Vast experience and a great sense of humour while delivering top-notch service. I enjoyed rack of lamb and garlic mashed potatoes. K delighted in a 12-ounce rib eye with the afore-mentioned garlic mashed, possibly in self-defence.A tip: if you like Edamame beans as an appy, 1 order will be more than enough for 2 people. We washed it down with a nice bottle of "Lake Breeze" Pinto Gris, then I got silly and ordered an over-the-top Port. The price definitely wasn't cheap but it was far from outrageous as well. All in all, the Hooded Merganser is the kind of restaurant that might just start putting Penticton on the map as a destination for food as well as wine.
We had a leisurely meal beginning at about 5:30 pm Sunday evening. We ordered our usual Vodka martinis on the rocks, the decided to order some appetizers. It took a while to attract the attention of the server as it became quite busy, and she had to serve a large table. Since this our first day in Penticton, it was great to sit and watch the lake. The starters were good. When we decided on dinner, it took a while to order and a longer time to deliver. My medium rare NY steak $34 came medium well done with "Parmesan " fries some carrots and zucchini. My partner had Bibimbap. Dinner for 2 with 2 cocktails each and tip $150. We spent less at Provence in Vancouver for a lot better and more food.
We ate here one night during our stay in Penticton. It was crowded, and i'm thinking everyone was there for the first time. first off, we sat for 15 minutes before anyone came over and offered us water. the menu is interesting but the food is mediocre and not worth the prices they charge. what irked us the most was the fact that when we finished eating our dirty dishes sat on our table for 20 minutes. we had to ask them to remove them. and they seemed put out by that.we went back for breakfast the next day (i was out voted) and i have to say that breakfast was very good. the service was very good - prices are reasonable - we got our hot food quickly, and it was good. so the lesson here - come for breakfast, but avoid for dinner. there are so many better options.
Das Restaurant macht räumlich einen super Eindruck. Sehr stylisch mit sehr freundlichem Personal. Wie man aber mit frischen Zutaten solch geschmacklose Gerichte zubereiten kann war uns rätselhaft.
