Fornos Do Rei Taberna Medieval

A very nice imitation of the traditional Portuguese tavern A very friendly service, a warm atmosphere on a very cold day and a well prepared and quality food (chestnut and mushroom soup).

The food is great and I highly recommend the “costeletão”. The tavern gives a game of thrones vibe, it’s lovely. The waiters are incredibly nice.

I was thinking that I was going to find a good restaurant with also a good decoration. The decoration was there, but not the quality of the food (meat, in fact)

Amazing restaurant! Decoration is unique, the owners are really nice and it was amazing! We ate a marvelous costeletão and we end it up with the best chocolate mousse we ever had and a delicious bolo de bolacha We will be back for sure.

As we got a sunny day we decided to visit the medieval village of Penedono in the North of Portugal. And at noon we went to have a meal into the restaurant “Fornos do Rei” just behind the tourist office and a set away from...the Castle. On the outside it looks very simple but on the other hand the interior is in the medieval style just like the village and it looks very nice. We had chosen to take the day plate which is the most usual on a week day. So we got as entrance a soup, we had also bread, olives and butter on the table, to drink we asked the house wine, and as than we got spare-ribs with carrots and beans with garlic and were told “when you like to have some more, you just have to ask”. This is the typical Portuguese kitchen and very tasteful. As desert we got a pudding and two coffees. We can tell that we got a real nice dinner and all this for the price of € pro person, not to believe that you still can get such a high quality for such a price. So we warmly recommend this location in the Medieval village of Penedono, this because you get a friendly host and high quality food for a small price, anyhow when we are in the region we will certainly return. In case you don not like the plate of the day, you still have the option to order something else from the menu.
