Pizzeria La Baita - PELAGO

…. but for the first time we experienced this restaurant. Compared to a not very populated village like Consuma (at least outside the summer season), this restaurant, with its large and high dining room (reminiscent of a church nave) stands out as an important presence.. The staff is efficient, and the no vacancies condition of a Saturday lunch doesn 't seem to put them in difficulty. The food tasted satisfactory (there were three of us). An appetizer of coccoli with ham and stracchino. “Casarecce” (a kind of pasta) with white ragu and red radicchio Two “tagliate” (thin slices) iof beef. A pork loin. Two side dishes, lentils and green salad. A quarter of a liter of house red wine. Bill of around 75 euros, which implies good value for money. Definitely recommended.

It's a nice, typical restaurant. I guess you can eat everything there because it's a local restaurant: I would go back.

On our initial request for a table for 4 we were told on arrival that there was nothing available until 9:30pm. We therefore rang our wonderful host back at our hotel to ask if she could recommend anywhere nearby. By coincidence, she booked us a table at this very restaurant. However, they said yes to her and no to us??? Is it because we are English and they didn’t see us as a priority. Who knows? Having said that, my husband is native Italian. Bad luck for the restaurant nevertheless, because he is a food critique for an Italian travel magazine. Despite this, we went in as our host had kindly managed to get us a reservation. We sat down at our table, and still after more than half an hour we had not been served at all! Not even a drink. And with two hungry children in tow, we decided to boycott the restaurant and leave. We have just left, hungry and they still probably haven’t even noticed. Having come from a hospitably family business, we are shocked to say the least. We are light minded, laid back people. But this is a poor show. On the plus side, the food did look good. But we felt really let down.

I've been with my wife for a Pizza a Saturday night. We were used to come very often with the previous management but only once after and that experience was not very satisfactory specially for the service. The place is very nice and the service much improved but more importantly... The pizza was more than excellent! Probably the best in the area... We will come back again!
