Le Relais des Montagnes Noires - Paris

Four of us arrived one lunchtime without booking. The restaurant was really full. The waitress said that they were full, but then with a cheery smile asked a couple of the regulars to share a table which freed up a table for us. No sulky faces, just smiles. Fantastic choice of buffet starters, choice of 4 main courses and dessert all for 13€ including wine (we were on motorbikes so just had water). Only French is spoken, so be prepared. The owner and waitress are really friendly and do their best to help.

You can book a table and that’s probably wise if there’s a lot of you. Jan and me they fitted in. This restaurant is only open at lunchtime from Monday to Saturday and it’s very popular. For starter you get a very wide choice buffet. Salad things, meats, pate etc. Wine and cider are included and each table gets a lire of water. The main course is a choice of fish, meat or today mussels (this one changes each week). Pudding is a choice of mouse, caramel cream, a fruit tart, you get the idea. Coffee is also included. All this for €13 each. No wonder it’s popular.

We called by to have a snack pre ferry so time was of the essence. Quickly ordering and paying for our coffee we sat outside as we were offered the menu or nothing to eat. We had our own bag of nuts to snack on and while I agree this may not be polite to eat snacks we had brought with us we needed something and having paid for our coffee we had the nuts. The owner of course asked us not to eat our food at her table so we apologised packed up to leave she accompanied by 2 of her heavies. Remember this is a polite restaurant. One of her henchmen suggested calling the gendarmes! (What a waste of police time that would have been) While she stood over us like naughty school children and the henchman stared us out until we drove off the property. Hardly the bonhomie you are led to expect in France. I would not be welcome back here I doubt and would not want to return.

Located on a main road with a very large car/lorry park. When we arrived at 1.00pm the car park was very crowded but the establishment appeared very quiet. Going through the bar we arrived at the dining area which could seat around 100 with about 60 diners present. The menu consisted of a set menu of help yourself buffet starters, a large mixture, followed by a choose of four main dishes, steak, turkey, fish or omelette and mixture of desserts and coffee wine included all for E12.50. Customers varied from lorry drivers to pensioners. Food was good quality and value. You won't far wrong if you stop here but the only menu is at the door and the waitress doesn't speak English so if you don't speak French you need to copy down your requirements upon entry.

Restaurant où l'on vous propose pour 14,50€ un repas complet avec buffet à volonté concernant l'entrée, 3 plats de résistance au choix ( faux filet sauce échalote, pavé de daurade avec fondue de poireaux, pintade sauce au cidre), dessert au choix présenté sur un plateau ,café et boissons incluses à discrétion. Service rapide et souriant. Tout est frais et appétissant. Un très bon rapport qualité prix
