General Chow - Oxnard

Great food and reasonable prices for quality. Noodles are made by hand, not bought. The staff is standing around while other workers need help or a break. Overall good restaurant but needs improvement with staff and music must be shut off while people try to enjoy their meal.

Do not leave the low star reviews from the opening month. General Chow has corrected itself and is a good option to meet your emptying mix. The seat was fast and the service was friendly and knowledgeable. Our waiter Dan did a great job. Give us enough time to peruse the menu and then additional information for our first visit. This was against many of the early service reviews we had read. Whatever the waiting staff had early was corrected. The food assessment is mixed. While I must agree with other reviews that some of the foods were a little on the Bland side; we were able to find a few things that were full of taste. In particular, the pig and Kimchee dumping. It had a touch of kick and hit all the right notes. Also the pad thai was not disappointment. We tried 4 of the dumplings on the list. The broth dumplings were also good, and favorites of the children. The others were not unforgettable. Also the chicken roast rice. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with General Chow and will look for another opportunity to try more from this menu.

Attentive and friendly service. Delicious food, but some dishes are not as hot as you wish, especially the dumplings. For larger parties, the large round tables could use a lazy Susan to help divide all family dishes.

They serve family style, which is always fun, the food is decent, but I was angry with their online order. When I tried to tell them there was a problem that they argued with me until they finally realized that it was really a problem with their online ordering system. I HATE if they argue with the customer! Especially if it doesn't deserve, I just wanted to help. I wanted to order online. Now I'm not going back to EVER because this is an example of their customer service. They blamed me that I probably didn't use the site instead of talking to them and seeing them in them that it wasn't me at all! Bad customer service. Bad.

I've never written a restaurant review before--but I felt compelled to here. Nine of us went here last Friday to celebrate an event. The food was great; the prices were quite reasonable $250 for 9, with drinks, appetizers, etc. But what really made the difference was the service. Our young man, Jake, was unfailingly polite, prompt, and on the spot. He did EVERYTHING right. I had him send the manager over just so that I could tell him how impressed I was...and the manager told me that it was the kid's first service job. Hard to believe--he was a real pro. Absolutely a recommendation--we'll go here again, and soon. [Cross-posted to Yelp]
