Bidrage med feedbackTake a detour and eat here! It is a great example of real Yucatán food. Their is a small selection of dishes, with Poc Chuc pork steak being the main staple. Dishes are around $6 usd so it is a great deal. This is one of the best places in the peninsula for this dish. Other dish options are Panuchos and Relleno Negro. We go to this town mainly for this place and the embroidered blouses not much else to see, but the food is worth it!
The place is very big, it doesn't have any walls, just palapas for the sun. The place is a little bit hot.The food is tasteful, and not at all expensive. The dishes are between $55 $95. There are 11 dishes in total. From which you can select what you want. The food is Yucatecan Food. And the desserts are $28. All of the desserts have the same price. There is ice cream, Papaya, Papaya con queso, and many others.
We arrived mid-afternoon on a Sunday and the place was very full; we added our name to the waiting list and in 15 mins were seated. Now, this restaurant seats about 300, so you can see that it is thriving. Also, nearly all the customers were Meridanos, so it is equally evident that this restaurant has pulling power. The menu includes most of the regional classics and starters are $60 and main dishes are $95, which represents very good value. We have never had a bad meal here and among all the items on the menu I would recommend papaya with grated cheese as a dessert as it is so unlike anything you’d find in North America or Europe. Mani is just off the Merida-Chetumal highway (which has been recently upgraded). Take the Cancun highway from Merida and you will see the Chetumal turn off after 20 mins. Alternatively, include a stop at the Tutul Xiu as part of a visit to Mayapan, Uxmal, Hacienda Sotuta de Peon, or a tour of the convents in the south of the state. Yes, you will go through some smaller towns, but it will give you a close-up view of the real Yucatán. Local people flock to this place (especially at weekends), that in itself tells you all you need to know.
Great local aromen and ambiente. delicious poc chuc and papadzules!
Once considered one of the top ten restaurants in the world by the Discovery Channel and with good reason. The hidden jem in the middle of nowhere in the jungles of Yucatan is one of the best restaurants I've been in and I've been to sone of the best. Highly recommended. Do yourself a favor and find this place.
