Bidrage med feedbackI can’t help thinking this restaurant is on borrowed time. Very typical American food and drink, nothing too special. It does sit in the middle of one of the main streets in Oxford so gets a decent amount of footfall, but nothing about is unique or special in anyway. Not bad for a few cheap cocktails as it has a bar inside too, can’t say I would recommend it though.
Old Orleans acts as a bar and family restaurant, the restaurant is downstairs and the bar upstairs. The restaurant offers tex-mex food with a TGI Fridays feel. The service is average, and the food is unexciting, and really doesn't live up to the real flavour and fun of tex-mex food.Old Orleans does offer a free main meal to any one whose birthday it is, which is a good deal, but it might be better to go somewhere were you might enjoy the experience more. The top and bottom halves of the restaurant/bar are quite different, the restaurant seems to aim itself at children and families- providing colouring sets and festive (and somewhat tacky) decorations. While the upstairs is centred on the older drinking crowds interested in cocktails and ordering large amounts of booze. In the evening there are bouncers on the door.To get to the restaurant you have to pass through the bar.Depending on what you want, Old Orleans is reasonable as a bar, although quite tacky without a broad selection of decent cocktails. However I'd avoid it as a restaurant, as its food is just not worth it.
An ever popular choice, offering a very reasonable cocktail bar (complete with live music on some nights), as well as a slightly less reasonable Tex-Mex style restaurant. You can't fault Old Orleans for the choice it offers Nachos, Burritos, salads, southern style chicken and steaks, the list is long and attractive. Perhaps more suited to large groups and parties than romantic dinners for two, the atmosphere is incredibly lively, especially on a Friday and Saturday evening. Food is good, albeit in a slightly pub-grub style, and perhaps not deserving of the price tag a meal for two can easily set you back
I used to dine at Old Orleans semi-regularly a couple of years back, so I was shocked at how poor the food was when I visited a couple of months back. We went on a Monday night, when they had an offer on for Buy One Get One Free fajitas. We started with Nachos, which weren't crisp, a little soggy and came with only a spoonful of each of the sauces, not enough to disguise the horrible potato chips. The main course was no better, whilst the hot part of the dish was OK (at best), the wraps were again past their best and the salad and sauces had obviously been prepared some time before, all limp and tasteless and again, a pathetically small amount of each of the accompanying sauces was provided.Once we'd finished our food, it took a good half hour for our waitress to free herself from her chatting with her friends and come and clear our plates.I was an OO loyalty card holder before I went last time, but threw it away when I got home. I won't be going back.
Old Orleans is a mixed bar and family restaurant, with the restaurant located downstairs and the bar above. The restaurant serves Tex-Mex food with a TGI Friday's vibe, but the service is average and the dining experience doesn't quite live up to the delicious flavors expected from Tex-Mex cuisine. Old Orleans offers a free main meal to those celebrating their birthday, but it may be more enjoyable to dine elsewhere for a better experience. The restaurant and bar have distinct atmospheres, with the restaurant appearing more kid-friendly with colorful decorations, while the bar caters to a more mature crowd interested in cocktails and alcohol. In the evening, there is a bouncer at the door leading to the restaurant, so diners must pass through the bar. Old Orleans is acceptable as a bar, although the cocktail selection is limited. However, it is not recommended as a restaurant due to the underwhelming food quality.
