The place was DEAD on Friday at 6:30, we didn't know if they were even open. It rained buckets, but restaurants in the area seemed much more lively. The food was mediocre, I wouldn't go back. U had the steak and it was far overboiled, looked like the shoe sole. The only thing that was pleasant with our visit was our server. He was AMAZING. We stayed a few hours and then drove next to Heart and Crown. We had already eaten here for brunch when they reopened a few years and it was much better, so the reason went back.
The place was closed, but you booked us a table there.
My husband and I were visiting from Toronto for the weekend for a 30 year High School reunion. We met up with some local friends to grab a bite to eat. The restaurant was very quiet on a Friday at 6:30, to the point where we weren't even sure if they were open. Despite the rainy weather, other restaurants in the area seemed to be much busier. The food was just okay, and I don't think I would return. I ordered the steak and it was way overcooked, resembling the sole of a shoe. The highlight of our experience was our server, who was fantastic. After spending a few hours at the restaurant, we decided to head next door to Heart and Crown. We had dined there for brunch a couple of years ago when they first opened, and had a much better experience, which is why we chose to go back.
I didn't want to go here first, but my spouse won me. It is located on a corner of the Byward market, on a large, simple wooden terrace. This is a kind of "share-your food". And that's all! I enjoyed their Big Rig...Pilsner on Tap (5.25 a glass,) my spouse had the Cab-Merlot $7.75 a glass.) Appropriate for market prices. We both shared the chicken skewers and two commands from Root Fries. These veggie fries are easily immersed in honey and are excellent. We sat next to a couple who shared an amici plate of Italian cheese and meat and olives. It looked great and was only at $14.00 . We're going back.
Saturday 24th November 2018 a group of my friends went and I went to the Red Lion. I paid the coat check and thought my coat was safe for the night. When I came back to get my coat, they said my coat wasn't there. My coat that cost me $300) had my car keys in my pocket and the next day I had to pay to drag my car from downtown to Carleton. The next morning I went back to the bar to see if someone had returned my coat or if the restaurant would pay for my loss of coat and my keys that cost me to replace $400. The chief said they were not responsible for lost things. What is the point of mantle control when people steal your coat? I would really appreciate if the manager could get back to me as I didn't happy with this result as I now at a loss of $700 for dinner with my friends.
