Sutherland Restaurant, Bar and Coffee House

Have been for both lunch and brunch and very happy both times. Price is good for quantity and quality of food as well as overall experience. For lunch I had the veggie burger which is probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant - absolutely delicious. And at brunch I had the huevos rancheros, also delicious. The menu has a great variety of health dishes and not-so-healthy dishes so there is something for almost everyone. Looking forward to coming back and trying out more of Sutherland's creative and delicious dishes.

I and a friend had an early lunch here last week. It was a little cool for the patio so we sat inside. Our waiter was less than efficient, but very pleasant. We each ordered the soup and sandwich special and split the sandwiches. My friend's reuben was better than my cobb but by the time I got to my half the cole slaw had soaked through the grilled bread and made everything soggy. I felt the soup (which was excellent) should have been served first to avoid this. My own sandwich was cold and dry and the bread was cut too thickly. The French fries were excellent.

We took a friend from France, in town for a few days. We were pleased to get a table outside on the patio and overall we had a lovely evening. Staff were really great and we appreciated the apology for delay in delivering the mains (there was no problem we were in now rush!). I was most excited to have the fiddleheads with a light batter- they were awesome- now this is a highly seasonal vegetable and it was wonderful to see this on an Ottawa menu plus I had never had them deep fried before. Still slightly crunchy and really yummy, serving was overly generous so took the rest home for my lunch the next day (still great even after going in microwave). The others enjoyed their meals (including lady from France which says something) and we had an excellent Californian Pinot that did not break the bank. Get the feeling chef still finding his way but I for one will continue the journey and return soon to try some other items.

This is an excellent restaurants for lunch! You need to try it while in the Beechwood area..the choices on the lunch menu were great. The food we had was very tasty. Next time we will try dinner.
