Bank Street Diner - Ottawa

If you're heading here on the weekend; be patient. The popularity of this place is warranted. Generous portions. Tasty food. Great service. Our wait was approximately half an hour outside on Sunday morning; the owner came out and passed around a plate of mini muffins! Fresh from the oven! How nice is that? Plus.....the staff are helpful and friendly.

This is a little hole-in-the-wall, but Halima, the waitress, is charming. The music is an eclectic mix of jazz, techno, world beat. The food is good and cheap. We have gone a number of times for breakfast - it is basic, solid and dependable. Our son ordered the Hamburger Breakfast, which gave him breakfast and a generous take-along sandwich for his trip. Not deluxe, by any stretch of the imagination, but we will definitely return!

Got hungry while shopping and stopped here for a quick small bite. I had the simple hamburger, priced around five dollars. The meat was tasty and well done, the way it should be. The dressings were slightly over done in quantity. Decor is austere. Staff was pleasant. I wish I could have tried the curry dishes on the menu, but I did not want to each that much food.

We went to the restaurant with a group of 6 people. When we arrived, it was very quiet, which should have been a warning sign, but we were hungry.

I am at a loss for words when it comes to a restaurant that can't even make a simple dish like bacon and eggs properly.
