Houzenji Sampei - Osaka

Had a sensational selection of okonomiyaki during the visit here. eating was sensational and it was a joy to observe the cooks to create the dishes. beautiful small plate with a great atmosphere. they look at this place safely when they are in the opposite.

When in Osaka, you gotta have okonomiyaki, right? We decided on Houzenji Sampei after researching a few okonomiyaki shops. Of course, you can always get some as street food in Kuromon Market but you can't beat the places that specialize in it. Like Houzenji Sampei. With different combinations (or a design-your-own option , you can try many different flavours and tastes. The best part though is that they make the pancake for you and bring it to your tabletop grill to season and dress, unlike other places that give you the premade batter to cook yourself. For a newbie at flipping pancakes, this was godsend. We ordered 3 different pancakes and a yaki-soba for 4 people, which left us all bursting at the seams. The yakisoba was bland (perhaps, because they don't specialize in it... but all 3 of the okonomiyaki(s were amazing, with crisp edges and tender insides. My favourite was the Shimei mushroom scallop cheese option. If you're ever in Osaka, I implore you to try a specialized okonomiyaki restaraunt. I highly recommend Houzenji Sampei be that restaurant!

This restaurant was really amazing! We ate a Okonomiyaki with shrimps cheese and pork yakisoba. It was really delicious The staff is nice and it's possible to watch the chefs, who prepare the food in front of your eyes! Don't hesitate to go there!

Good okonomiyaki in one of the side alleys in the Dotonbori area. Shimeiji mushroom and scallop butter was tasty. Pork kimchi with cheese topping was our fav. Scallop cheese tasted milder and was good but didn't have many scallops.

Highly recommend the yakisoba. Way better than any fried noodles I’ve had in my life. Okonomiyaki is abit bland for my taste. Sitting in front of the grill lets you see how your food is prepared but it is also super hot and oily. Cosy atmosphere overall.
