Bidrage med feedbackThis delightful restaurant is ideally located in the countryside, adjacent to the river, and overlooking a lake. Just wonderful. Our host Francoise was so friendly and was clearly so proud of their restaurant and their amazing food. Everything was just right about this foodie heaven, and it will be a long time before I forget those gastronomic delights.
We went for lunch on a may bank holiday and it was full. Normally you can eat for around 25€ for 2 courses in the week, but as it was bank holiday we had 4 courses including cheese and a sparkling aperitif for 34€ per person. The room is like a Scandinavian cabin, simple lines with the view of the lake and the terrace being the whole point, but with lovely interior design touches. We both found the food sublime, with additions of delicious herbs, and vegetables treated in inventive ways, so often missing from French food. The menu changes with the seasons, and I enjoyed a velouté of asparagus with green asparagus spears and a poached egg, decorated with chervil, wild garlic flowers and bitter red salad leaves. Then I ate river fish with aubergine spiced purée, and the cheese was the local speciality of fromage frais with chives and garlic. The dessert was the lightest lemon cake with a very tangy lemon sabayon and simply the best sorbet I have ever tasted, made of lemon verbena. All the presentation was perfect, as was the china made by Hugh West, the celebrated ceramist from La Borne nearby. The service was lovely, the owners charming, the view stunning, and the bill a pleasant surprise, 90€ for 2 including a good bottle of Quincy priced at 20€ only. Coffee came with a Proustian madeleine. We asked about accepting groups and vegetarians, and nothing was a problem. Again very unusual! I can only urge people to go for a change from the heavy, dead-animal laden rooms of other auberges nearby. Can't wait to go back.
