Really good food and the people are really nice. We ordered the Parmesan chicken, lemon pepper chicken, gumbo, greens, macaroni, yams, brisket, cobbler, watermelon, and watermelon mango Fresca. It was all tasty! All items are meatless. No indoor dining.

Order the Mac and cheese, it's so creamy, some of the best I've had! We ordered ribs, brisket and chicken on the large combo plate $25); when they gave us the food they told us they were out of brisket, so they gave us extra ribs. The ribs weresupposed to be spicy but tasted more ketchup-like, we didn't really care for them; they tasted better cold the next day. Theribs were also shredded texture, which seemed more like brisket so we wondered if there was a mix up and they were out of ribs,not brisket. The chicken had great flavour, it was greasy but since it's fried chicken that's to be expected. The portion ofchicken was less than they give of the other meat. We had potato salad as well which was flavourful but nowhere as good as theMac and cheese. Individually the portions were small but altogether it was a good deal of food. There is no indoor seating, themusic is loud but goes with the atmosphere.

The gods honest truth I couldn't believe this was actually vegan. Oakland should label this spot a landmark. Hands down the best vegan food in the Bay. I had the mac and cheese egg rolls stuffed with candy yams???? then the combo plate with beans, ribs. Thehigh light of my day. Can't wait to go back

The fried chicken with buffalo sauce was great (the chicken wasn 't the typical dense imitation meat, I think it was previously frozen then thawed tofu, battered and fried delicious with great consistency). The collard greens were bomb and Ithink are the only healthy thing on the menu, and the sweet potatoes were almost too sweet. The fries were so off, I 'm going toassume I got a bad batch because there is no way that 's how they roll. The outdoor seating area was filthy dirty with trashoverflowing and nobody cleaning the tables or anything, which is unfortunate as this would otherwise be a great place torevisit.

Great food all round. Everything I have ever had to eat here has exceeded my expectations. Kudos, well done. I bring my friends here who don't already know about it. If there is any left the sweet potato pie is amazing and delicious. Right across thestreet from Lake Merritt, which is where I go to eat my food. Limited outside seating at the restaurant. Usually it is crowdedand there is a line.
