Bidrage med feedbackThis (unfortunately) is a pandemic pizza review (ha) only because the last time I was here was several weeks ago pre-covid. Never got around to writing a review since I 'm a busy guy these days even through lockdown; the life of a day-trader. Anyway, I still had pics on my phone and looking at them, I was salivating and thinking yeah, that was a helluva good stuffed pizza/dining experience, so here we go... Oh, before I get started, just checked and yes, they are in fact, open for pick-up and delivery service. That 's good! Edwardo 's, was always my go-to for stuffed pizza back in the day. Years ago they had multiple full service restaurants and if you 're from Chicago, no matter what part of town you lived in, you could find an Edwardo 's Natural Pizza location within reasonable proximity. That 's no longer the case. This restaurant in Oak Park on North Avenue is the only remaining sit-down location in Illinois. Arrived here on a Saturday afternoon with my sister around 12:30. I had not been to this Edwardo 's in over a decade, so I really hoping it would be just as I remembered it, but no. The decor, once very bright is now a more dimly lit, but tastfully done pub-style atmosphere which is fine, but I was like wait, are we in the twilight zone? Ha, we were just a bit taken aback although certainly not a problem. A bit of a problem however, was the place was practically devoid of customers and it still took a few minutes to be greeted and seated. Ok, I 'll be patient. I 'm thinking I just want that good ole ' stand-by Edwardo 's stuffed pizza pie! Finally seated, our server seemed very friendly and accommodating, so we were immediately reassured this would be a fantastic grown-up pizza party. I ordered a beer, my sis, a glass of wine and wasting no time, we ordered the Sampler Platter appetizer which consists of toasted ravioli, mozzarella sticks, zucchini fritters and breaded mushrooms w/ marinara and ranch dipping sauces. We also knew exactly which stuffed pizza we wanted; the spinach and mushroom was always the one our family would agree upon when we 'd gather here way back when, so it was an easy choice. App platter arrived at our table and perfect. Of course, deep fried goodness, right? Yeah, I was glad I skipped breakfast that day because I knew my belly was in for a treat. Still, we gobbled it wisely saving room for the star of the show, that pie... The pie, this deep dish pizza perfection we remember and would go back for often. When our server happily approached the table with our stuffed pizza, it was showtime! There it was in all its glory, haha. That part hadn 't changed and I 'm so glad. She cut and raised the slice while I snapped the pic. Cheese cascading down from slice to plate and pan. A quick swipe of my butter knife and we achieve separation. Great presentation! Does this famous stuffed pizza taste as good as I remember it? Oh YES, absolutely! Our bellies full, we lingered for a while. Through our visit, the service was very attentive and friendly. Top-notch and appreciated. I was surprised there weren 't more customers in the restaurant on that day, but I guess it 's just a slow time for dine-in. I could hear the phones ringing in the background, so obviously they 're still busy. I 'll have to come back on a Friday night when this lockdown madness ends. That 'll be a welcome moment.
Rosa J. is practicing writing a caption for a stuffed pizza commercial. Here 's the rough draft: Underneath the mouthwatering marinara sauce, an abundance of spinach and cheese playfully mingles with one another...no, you can 't resist this food chemistry...all you can do is to devour this monster, bite after bite. Edwardo 's Natural Pizza...naturally delicious! We had guests from South Carolina staying in my house. I took a leap of faith and ordered their stuffed spinach pizza for delivery. The estimated delivery time was between 60 to 75 minutes, which was accurate. The large, 14-inch size was able for feed all five (5) of us, though I had to beg for some leftover as my work lunch for the next day. The pizza arrived poppin ' hot and in one-piece. I liked the fact that the pizza wasn 't drenched in marinara sauce like some of the stuffed, deep-dish pizzas I had in the past. They didn 't skimp on mozzarella and spinach AT ALL. I noticed one of the guys finished his slice within five (5) minutes! I thought the price was fair for pizza this caliber: $30, give-and-take (before tip). Their delivery is $3.50 (as of 10/15/2016). One can easily place a pickup or a delivery order via their Yelp page or Eat24 app.
This review is on the pizza itself. I did not order or pay for it. My good friend decided to order this classic deep dish Chicago pizza... spinach. I like spinach. When she brought it back I was smelling this delicious tomato based sauce piping hot fresh out of the oven. A slice was placed on my plate. I was last to be served but first to take a bite. That piece did not last long. I took my time this time to enjoy every single bite. I hope i can try more before leaving.
I was very impressed with Edwardos and feel like they 're underrated and don 't get the attention they deserve. Like always I ordered the stuffed with sausage. Since it 's a stuffed and not a deep dish, it won 't have as much tomato sauce. But that 's ok because it wasn 't under sauced either. The pizza had a more than perfect amount of sausage(they were stingy at all) and it was like a crumbled type of sausage. Pieces of sausage kept falling out when I would bite. Now tell me the last time that has ever happened in other joints? Never! It also had the perfect of amount of cheese. The crust wasn 't the greatest, probably the reason for the 4 stars and not 5. They have a pretty big dining area and when I went it was rather lonely. We were the only ones dining in. They had a few carry out customers and I hope they had a lot of deliveries because seeing a place so lonely scares me at times, for fear of closing. Customer service was great and will definitely be coming back to try their lunch buffet!
I haven't had an Edwardo's Pizza from this location in probably 25 years. Yep, 25 years. I ordered last night for pick up it was EXCELLENT and cooked EXACTLY the way I wanted easy cheese well done! BRAVO!
