One of the last remaining authentic British pubs in existence. Great beer, old world atmosphere. Just the place to enjoy a quiet pint or three with a few mates.
As others have said do not expect luxury and comfort but this is a real traditional pub. Richard the barman has excellent knowledge of ales and cider and the cask beer is absolutely sublime. The cider according to the wife was extremely quaffable. We didn't have a Sunday meal because it was fully booked, showing that it must be very popular. Highly recommended especially the friendly staff. Go and try it.
We booked for a Sunday lunch, without asking the price. When we saw it was £17 we thought we were in for a treat. When ordering we were surprised we had to pay an extra £3.50 for a portion of cauliflower cheese. We found the meat selection was chicken, brisket of beef or belly of pork, three of the cheapest cuts of meat available. When it arrived we were disappointed with the meal content. My brisket was over cooked and separating. We had two roast potatoes, a quarter of a parsnip, quarter of a carrot, some mashed up carrot and swede, greens and for some reason a half of beetroot. My wife’s belly of pork was so tough she could not ear it and I could not even cut it. The waitress came to see if everything was acceptable and when we mentioned my wife’s tough meat she immediately offered her a full refund, instead of trying to supply a more tender piece of meat. We left very dissatisfied and vowed never to go there again.
The best Sunday lunch ever wonderful food, lovely staff absolutely fantastic to be in a traditional British pub offering such great food.
