Bidrage med feedbackIt is an inconceivable place on the post road, surrounded by strip mall style commercial space, but updike 's is cozy and welcoming on the inside and the coffee is spectacular. I personally love the mud slide ice cream with espresso. once I went in the winter and said: I want a drink that tastes like Christmas, and the girl behind the theke delivered exactly that! maybe even better than the coffee is the service. everyone who works there is so friendly it is a really beautiful wise to begin their day!
Best coffee and esspresso drinks. Fair trade beans hand roasted to perfection, personally crafted artisan blends, Updikes does it all! If you want the best this is the place to get it.
Updike’s Newtowne at 7726 Post Rd, N. Kingstown, RI. When walking in you are greeted with a large coffee roaster right when you walk in. With coffee roasted on premise, this coffee is strong and flavorful. The hand crafted drinks are always made perfectly. Small shop with some seating, but not much
Great little place with amazing coffee. Their prices are very reasonable considering the quality and quantity of coffee you get. Staff is very friendly as well. It's nice having a place like this around NK/Quonset because the coffee options are limited.
This review is meant for serious coffee people. First, Updike's like many other reviews, is friendly and homey the perfect place to kick back and read the paper or do a little work. It's unassuming from outside and many people just blow by the little strip mall on Post Road. Once inside on the right day, the wonderful smell of freshly roasted coffee wafts down the road and invites you in. The coffee Updike's caters to NK and RI locals who like their brewed coffee dark with copious amounts of sugar and milk the Dunkin' Donut loving state impacts local coffee shops too. While Updike's roasts, don't expect pourover single origins from East Africa with notes of berries and fruits on the menu. As mentioned, they roast to the local taste. It's called good business sense. Medium roast is as light as you are going to get so expect mostly Latin American and maybe Pacific Rim coffees. I was told that light roasts are under roasted and that it was a fad. I've lived a lot of places over the past 20+ years to include Washington State.... it's not a fad. Their whole beans smelled fine; nothing spectacular but solid. I did not order straight brewed coffee to try it since I do like my light roast single origins. I went to espresso to check the barista quality. A large cappuccino (20 oz) is going to set you back $6 and their iced Gilded Lilly drink will cost $7. The equivalent drinks at a Charbucks would cost less. The cappuccino was watery but the Gilded Lilly was pretty good. Don't expect latte art but they do ask if you'd like a bit of cinnamon or cocoa sprinkled on top. Yeah, you can do that yourself at Charbucks but it's nice that they offer. The bottom line is that it's a great place for local coffee brewed for the crowd. If you are expecting high end espresso drinks or pour over, you may want to consider another place. I give it 4 stars simply because the barista was knowledgeable, answered questions and wanted to share their view on coffee even if it wasn't my exact view. All good here.
