Touch of Britain is wonderful! Lillian and Tammy are like family. And Lillian makes the best fish and chips in California. Like home! Merry Christmas and Merry New Year for everyone!
We read some reviews on this place and were excited for what seemed to be a truly British establishment, serving more authentic fish and chips and the little things we miss from being in the UK. We headed over a little later in the day, keeping in mind the closing times stated on their website and google, with the hopes of some fish and chips to go and some other goodies from their store. There were around 3 4 people in there finishing up their meals as we entered with what seemed to be one person working the cafe side and the store, and were welcomed with a smile. As we came to try and order food before 3pm, we were told the kitchen closes at 2:30 (contrary to the online information and the sign on the front of the store). Unfortunate, but hey not the end of the world. Would have been nice as we entered to be told a quick, ?hi if you?re planning on a food order, our kitchen closes in 5 minutes?. When browsing to pick up a couple of home comforts, everything is WAY overpriced. A smaller bar of Cadbury?s dairy milk that is out of date at close to $10 (visit one of the many local import stores and find them much cheaper), ?bangers? full of processed ingredients more akin to a Richmond sausage and not a classic British banger, 4 5 rashers of medium bacon for $10. With the short opening hours, it?s easy to see why things are more expensive but it?s certainly not somewhere I?d recommend anybody take a specific trip.
It takes a lot for me to give two stars to a restaurant. Firstly, prices are extremely high. I got fish and chips, which cost over $16. The fish was good, but nothing exceptional. Their chips were just standard fries. My wife got the scone with jam, which, as the picture shows, was basically a very small bisquick-tasting biscuit with store jam and butter. Nothing worth the over $7 paid for it. The grocery store of the shop was scarcely stocked and very expensive compared to what the exact items can be ordered for online. While I won't say the shop isn't worth going to, it's not someplace I'll be stopping at again.
Interesting lil shop, always have an eye out for places like this and glad I found one... The ladies were kind and I highly recommend eating at the little restaurant there. If you've ever been interested in trying things from across the pond this is the place to go. Authentic fish n chips with mashed peas... Excellent.
