Bidrage med feedbackDined 11/02/18 FR 7:30pm : What...there was sushi on Brand Blvd!? Since it was my no meat Friday , thankfully a friend whom I was having a pre show meal with was fine to dine at Sushi On Brand...a restaurant neither of us have tried. Although I grew up in and frequented the area and my love for sushi knew no bounds, these days I avoided downtown Glendale like the Plague which was why I 'd never heard or seen this place before. Would this first encounter have us swim back for more!? PURCHASE Edamame COMPLIMENTARY : Lately, I 've been annoyed by businesses who 've decided to charge for these soybean snacks greedy bastards! . Anyway, nothing special here as they were cold and unflavored/unsalted but a nice FREE staple as we waited for our meal. Kirin Beer Small Bottle $5.85 : Why my friend opted for the baby bottle I had no idea shook my head ... Asahi Beer Large Bottle $8.85 : Honestly, Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo were all interchangeable to me, so I just went big because I wasn 't planning on going home [hidden link]. Spicy Tuna Roll Salmon Sushi $5.95 $5.50 : The spicy tuna roll was a simple staple order of mine to set the dinner mood. Eight smaller cut pieces, there was nothing special about this but did the job. As for the salmon sushi, you received two fairly large pieces with a pinch of white rice. The salmon was fresh but not to the point that it melted like butter in your mouth, and was good nonetheless [hidden link]. Calamari Tempura Roll $7.95 : Seven why seven? large cut pieces while two had thick protruding calamari bits, this was a lovingly mouthful to eat [hidden link]! Yellowtail Roll $5.95 : Eight small cut pieces with equal amounts of yellowtail and rice, I was disappointed not only in the portion size but the bland flavor [hidden link]. Jimmy Specialty Roll $14.95 : This large eight piece cut roll was a mess from start to finish...and I loved it! Constructed with avocado, crab meat, and a whole bunch of other goodness I couldn 't remember, this was filling and finger licking good [hidden link]! SERVICE We were kindly greeted by three women who advised that we sat anywhere, so we chose a quaint table for two, the place had only a handful of diners at this time. Menus were given as our server hovered for a bit and soon asked for our drink order beers and water, please . She delivered our drinks, but we still weren 't ready to order as we perused the menus, so after a couple more times of her checking on us the simple menu was finally filled out [hidden link]. About ten minutes later, our entire order came out which covered the table but we managed. As each plate became empty, someone swooped in and took it away. Our water glasses were filled, and once we requested the check, we paid up and off we went not bad at all. PARKING Varied; FREE this instance I was staying nearby and simply walked. Otherwise, there were plenty of free 90 minute parking structures all over the city as well as paid meters along the main drag of Brand Blvd. and both metered and timed parking along all surrounding streets. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A medium size rectangular restaurant filled with wooden tables and chairs, a couple booths, and a bar area with stools. Its clean Japanese style decorations and treatment i.e. sake bottles and framed pictures were placed throughout lent itself to a homey warm feeling. Minimal natural lighting came in through the tinted front glass windows and door while a contingency of various electric ceiling light fixtures filled in the rest. There were TVs only in the bar area while music softly played in the background. ATTIRE Although I was dressed for a night on the town, this place was totally casual, so I would normally be in a t shirt, boardshorts, and flip flops. OVERALL I was glad to support my hometown as I dined at Sushi On Brand and would consider them again needed to check if they had a Happy Hour . However, my favorite sushi place in Ichiban was only a couple miles away. They had a varied menu, the food was generally good, prices standard, and the service was very good. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above TOTAL paid experience was around $58.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip . And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS
Why, oh why, is it difficult to find a good quality sushi establishment in Glendale? This is my second time giving this place a try and as before, it simply wasn 't mind-blowing. The service was spectacular though, so I 'm at a loss as to what to rate this. 3.5? Regardless...I 'd suggest settling with simpler rolls if you want to try the food here. DESERT ROSE (3/5): This specialty roll had a lot going on and don 't get me wrong--I usually love that. However, the fish didn 't taste as fresh as the ones I 've tried at other locations. It had a nice tangy taste with the fusion of flavors. MISO SOUP (3/5): Sorry, pretty bland. PARKING Available in the back lot (crosses at California) for small change or metered parking on Brand Blvd.
Not too bad! I came here with a friend who swears by this place (recommends their Uni, but unfortunately I don't eat meat. I had the Philadelphia Roll without the meat. It was pretty good, but I think they put raw onion in it? They do serve you the wasabi and ginger first, but no miso soup like most traditional Japanese restaurants, my friend said you have to ask for it. They also serve soda in a can, so sadly, no refills unless you want to pay for an extra can. Parking is convenient, just around the back. $1 for each hour.
This place was decent. It's been here for as long as I can remember, over 20 years for sure. Decent price and decent food but for sure out dated. Decor isn't much to look at. Lighting is low and it's very 90's in there. Menu is pretty simple. Standard stuff that you'll find at most places. The food is decent like I said but the rolls are pretty big and clunky and again just seemed dated. Sushi itself was pretty fresh. Got got some tuna, albacore, yellowtail and mackerel. It was ok. Really thick slices. But still good. 4/5 Had some kind of spicy tuna on crispy rice. Tuna wasn't that spicy and the rice seemed a bit old. 3/5 The Superman burrito was good. Lettuce wrapped California style roll with shrimp tempura. 4:5 Had an assortment of other rolls including a baked scallop roll. Portions are big so come hungry or come with friends. Prices are about average. All in all for a quick sushi fix it's ok. You have plenty of other choices in the area though which are a bit more modern.
We visited on Tuesday night, it was very quite but still some customers. The restaurant is very nice cozy and seats are very comfortable. I think it's renovated. We ordered some popular rolls and hot sake. Everything tasted good, we enjoyed it. Nice place to hang out with friends .
