Bidrage med feedbackWolseys have stepped up their game in the last few years. It used to have a reputation for being pretty bad, and they have worked very hard to change that! At a recent Yelp Secret Supper, we had food from the bistro menu upstairs which was pretty damn good. I had the a sirloin steak with chicken, yes, that was one plate and a few pints of Guinness. Nice relaxed night, albeit, a little slow (took an hour to get food which wasn't great). The decor is alright. They have spent a bit of effort modernising the place (upstairs only, didn't check out the bar downstairs), although, there is some tat on the walls There are some glass boxes with some old victorian clothes displayed in it. Really not sure why, but hey.
I dined at Wolsey's for the first time last night as part of the Yelp secret supper event. I had heard about Wolsey's from a radio advert but had never had the chance to try it until now. I ordered the sirloin steak, cooked medium rare, along with crispy chicken, green beans, mangetout, champ, and pepper sauce. The meat was of great quality and the food was delicious. The restaurant had a traditional decor and the service was attentive. Some members of our group mentioned a loyalty card that gives 10% off, which is a great deal. My only criticism was the timing of the service. With about 20 people in our group, we were served at different times, making it difficult for some to enjoy their meals without feeling rushed. One table was finishing dessert as another table was just placing their order, which caused some to have to leave quickly to catch a train.
I have only been here once and it was for the Secret Supper. The food was delicious, we had to pick from the steak menu....what a hardship : I had the beef and bird. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. The greens and sides were delicious too. Really tasty. For dessert I had the nicest chocolate brownie I have ever had. Amazing. We were lucky that our table was one of the 1st to be served so didn't have to wait as long as others but it did seem to take quite a while from ordering to food arriving and there didn't seem to be a lot of staff available. However, the staff they did have couldn't have been more friendly and attentive. The toilets are rank. Tiny, fusty wee bathroom at the back of the building which didn't tie in with the beautiful modern funky resteraunt design. Apart from the toilets and the waiting time, everything else was fab. And they have a great choice of drinks available too :
Great night out here with great company ... Food was excellent and the staff very accommodating. We did have to wait a little for food but the restaurant was very busy and when it came it was def worth waiting for. Steak night on a Thursday ... I opted for the surf and turf minus the mussels and the fennel cream, which they catered for no problem. I was that stuffed after dinner that I could only share a dessert with my friend ... Chocolate brownie and it was the best I've ever tasted. I would certainly go back !!!
Wolsey's has been a staple of Bangor nightlife for aeons. Even as far back as when I was a young whippersnapper many moons ago. Over the last 6 months or so it has undergone a brilliant revivification under new ownership. We popped in last Saturday afternoon and I had what I can honestly say was the best Ribeye steak I have ever had! They really have made a fantastic effort with great deals through the week, quality live music and a great atmosphere. Wolsey's was probably the first pub I regularly went to and I can now strongly recommend it as as a great stop off for locals or anyone visiting Bangor.
