Don Julio Mexican Restaurant

I was in North Branch for work, visiting from California. I had heard from my colleagues that this restaurant served good Mexican food, so I decided to give it a try. The atmosphere was decent, with the typical Mexican-style decor. The server was attentive and took my order promptly. However, the food was quite disappointing. It lacked flavor and tasted more like Americanized Mexican food. Even the salsa tasted like upgraded ketchup. Overall, I would rate the ambiance a 3, the service a 4, and the food a 1.

I decided to try something different and went to Don Julio's instead of my usual spot, Dickey's BBQ. The service at Don Julio's was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff who quickly seated me and took my order before I even had a chance to look at the menu. It seems like they have a strong local following, as some of the specials on the board were listed without descriptions. I opted for the fajitas de mar, which cost just under $20. While this may seem pricey for a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall, the portion size was generous and the dish was delicious. The meal was so filling that I couldn't even finish my guacamole salad, chips, and salsa. Despite having burned off 600 calories on a bike ride earlier in the day, I still left feeling stuffed. There was a slight mix-up with the food delivery, as all the dishes were brought out except for the seafood fajitas, but it was quickly rectified. I didn't have room for dessert, but perhaps I'll try it next time and include it in a future review.

The food and service at this restaurant are excellent! We enjoy coming here whenever we crave delicious Mexican cuisine.

I think that overall the staff is friendly here. I just had some shrimp tacos and the waiter spilled the red sauce all over me and the liquor menu. The waiter didn't bother to get me napkins to clean up the mess. I think the food is great, but that one waiter needs to learn to respect people who eat out at the restaurant. Don't get me wrong lost of the staff is good. It would just be nice to have silverware when you are sitting down at the table and have rice. Overall I find this restaurant to be mixed which is why I give it a 3 star and not a 2 star or a 4 star. It definitely could use some improvement in the quality of service and having the basic amenities such as silverware when you sit down to eat.

The absolute worse! Taco Bell is better. We have given them way too many opportunities. Waitstaff extremely rude. Don't waste your hard earned money. NOT authentic Mexican food by far !!!!
