Your drink, the Gin Gin Mule was the surprise. We all ordered various hotstone plates venison, steak and salmon. They were made perfect.
Translated by Google) Excellent service. Spanish vine was cheap. Unfortunately, the steak was very hard and the portions were too small for prices. Water for 8.50 euros per bottle is overpriced. Needed an early dinner before the opera, and Aqua, located in our hotel, fit the bill. It was fairly empty at that early hour. Nice decor, with photos of Spanish celebrities adorning one wall. Wife went for schnitzel, I went for a cook it yourself...salmon. I would have been just as satisfied if the salmon had arrived already cooked! Food was tasty but not spectacular. Good wine to go with it. Excellent service, although it took awhile to receive the bill. All in all, a pleasurable dining experience.
We are staying at an apartment across the street, and after a full morning of shopping, I wanted to stop back at the apartment before heading out to lunch. What better than to just walk across the street? I had seen it from a “window...shopping” perspective and it looked nice. The menus were posted outside , so I reviewed them before returning to the apartment, zeroed in on a Caesar salad, bopped into the apartment for minutes and then back again. I approached the bar area and asked the young man behind the bar if I could have a glass of wine AND eat at the bar, and he said, “but of course.” But then he also indicated a larger, longer table next to the window that was “bar-like” as another option. Noting that it had more space and a deeper “bar”, I said “good idea, as I wanted to write postcards. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay from France (sorry, no CALIFORNIA Chardonnay here) and it was nice. I also ordered the Caesar salad with half the dressing and he said he could bring the other half on the side (as I find too many restaurants drown their salads in dressing I confirmed that Gerke meant cucumbers and not the pickle, and it also came with Parmesan, tomatoes and (fortunately) baby croutons. He asked if I wanted to add either shrimp or chicken, and learning that it would be maybe shrimp, I said “sure, nice idea”. The salad also came with some nice leaves of radicchio, tomatoes and some micro greens. And, a basket of bread. It was lovely and just what I wanted. My main server, and there were several, was born in Germany, but his parents were from Vietnam. His English was perfect (as I know his German was, too). He was delightful. Unfortunately, I did not get his name, but he would be easy to spot. I was able to eat my salad, drink my wine, write my postcards and study my map of Dusseldorf in peace!
Highlights Watchouts: Highlights: Very good Breakfast (but not cheap Friendly service (but medium experienced) Good Ambiente Convenient (as directly in Hotel) Watchouts: Much better eats for Lunch Dinner just around the corner Can get crowded when hotel is...busy … then speed service suffers Food quality has been ok only (had to redo Steak of my wife)
