Bidrage med feedbackHaving really no clue where to eat while in Nome, we made our way to the Polar Cafe because google said they were one of the only places open on Sunday (google lies, a lot of places were open that it said was closed, yay Iditarod weekend! . It's your typical diner atmosphere, but it's located on the Sea Wall so the views are to die for. You can see the sea ice (in the winter, obviously and I can only imagine what it looks like in summer. The menu had your typical diner breakfast fare, though it's not as extensive as what we were used to. And the prices are pretty high but that's because it's Nome and everything is far more expensive due to it having to be flown or barged in. No road to the big city to get goods. I had the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were dry and they aren't very generous with the gravy (again, waste is not something they want to see . However the gravy didn't taste like it was out of a can and it filled me up. The food wasn't anything spectacular, but it got the job done. And the view is incredible. There are places better on the Sea Wall, but you might as well give this a try if you're staying a few days and want to sample more than a couple of places.
Want a great view!! You can watch the ocean wave as and in the summer sometimes even see seals on the beach while havin your coffee!! If you enjoy good hometown brekky food from a joint that has always survived, Polar Cafe is the spot. It 's quirky that 's why its great!! If you don 't enjoy greasy staples for your brekky you wont like it. This restaurant is one of my Fav 's in Nome. Preppy, Needy, Stuck-Ups need not enter.
Great servers (really many people working there). We had club and burger (really well fresh beef) and delicious well-done French fries Prices were little higher than lower 48 states. We would come back again. Also there's a small cute dark bar in the basement. And great views of Bering sea.
This is a great diner spot for breakfast. It was homey and the view was nice. It's also great that they serve breakfast all day!
Upon entering, I found the interior to be quite simple and cozy, typical of a rural Alaskan eatery. The tables and chairs were mismatched, and the walls featured random paintings of flowers and landscapes. A server greeted me and told me I could sit wherever I liked, and I chose a table by the windows overlooking the Bering Sea. It was a cloudy and overcast day, so the view wasn’t exactly picturesque, but it was still nice to gaze out at the sea. Another server stopped by with the menu. I perused the options but knew I wanted breakfast. I settled on two scrambled eggs with reindeer sausage (my favorite!). I had a choice of hash browns or home fries/country potatoes (I went with home fries) and also selected light rye toast. The food arrived fairly quickly, and I thought it was really delicious—maybe I was just really hungry! The scrambled eggs were a bit bland, but I could easily fix that with the salt and pepper on the table. The sausage was quite flavorful, but the standout was undoubtedly the home fries. They were incredible—crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. I polished off everything on my plate (the toast was good, too). The service was excellent; the server was incredibly friendly, and we chatted for a bit. Overall, the food was tasty, the service was great, and the view added to the experience. I would definitely return if I ever make it back to Nome!
